I was contemplating getting a new TV. Redecorated and moved the sofas and now I'm further away and squinting...!!.... any of the tech bods here looked into these new sets, how long before the technology gets usurped or is it already behind other things available...?

I swear by my LG OLED. Football looks great on it, all the 4k platforms looks fantastic and it has everything app wise on it that I will ever need, so I personally don't see the attraction of Sky Glass

A Sky branded TV with built in Dolby Atmos soundbar. The main selling point is that allows you to stream Sky TV via your broadband/fibre connection and doesn't need the Sky Q box or a dish installing at your property. The TV comes in 43in, 55in or 65in sizes.

The Dolby Atmos thing is nothing but a marketing gimmick, to get Dolby Atmos in the manor in what it was invented for you need way more then just a sound bar... It's a great audio experience when it's done properly

The Sky Glass has a 6 speaker system built-in so it is pretty decent but audio performance & experience will depend heavily on the room size and shape. For the average TV watcher who isn't really tech savvy, they will be drawn to this all-in-one package for the ease of use. The only major drawback is you are going to be tied into a Sky subscription to get the best out of the TV.

May well have the 6 built in and. Guessing they will be a mixture of central/side and upwards facing. Which may help give the illusion of Dolby Atmos and will no doubt be an upgrade for probably most. But it's not a patch on proper Dolby Atmos which can sound fantastic.

As you say though, being stuck with sky is a major downside.

I'd say the LG OLED set ups but all depends on budget and what kind of TV you watch and the quality the stuff you watch is played in... if it's 4k etc as if your playback isn't great quality then a top top TV is wasted money.

Also you are going to need a decent fibre connection with no download limits to stream 1080I and 4K content. Oh guess what, Sky are an ISP and sell Broadband Fibre packages... and also Sky sell mobile phone packages as well.

LG OLED or 'Lucky Goldstar' (to use their full original name) Televisions are good value and LG manufacture their own tv panels. I remember Comet used to sell Lucky Goldstar branded video recorders and hi-fi separates in the 80's, they were a bit cheaper than the likes of Sony, Toshiba and Sharp.

Thanks , not for me then , don't really see any advantage to it
 
I'm looking to get a 32" tv for my bedroom to plug into my laptop and play films, youtube etc. I have a screen now that's on it's last legs which I use but without an exterior aerial. I'm not interested in freeview or any other such thing that i'd need an aerial for.
Any suggestions from you tech savvy people on here?
I'm not tech savvy so please keep it idiot proof (no TwoWrights :emoticon-0145-shake)

Seconded on LG Oleds, i've being watching on Oled technology since Lg's E6 series, best technology out there right now for tv's and the 4k stuff in hdr or dolby vision in partricular looks stunning, even sd looks better and impressive on a bigger screen and as you indicated very user friendly.

As for these Sky Glass screens from reviews i've seen the picture quality from them isn't all that good, can only think they'd be usefull for thoose rare occasions a dish couldn't be used.
