Did I really just see a Penchester United fan unironically mock the idea of a player whose goal tally contains a large percentage of penalties?
It seemed to me that the five City players did not want to pass to Kane at all. He did score more when there were four Spurs players in the side who played. to his strengths
Predictable stuff of Kane criticism today. Yes he scuffed a chance but generally you need to give a striker as many chances as possible. Too often in recent matches they haven't been passing to him and apparently that's his fault. Yet up until last night he'd scored in something like 9 consecutive qualifiers which is mental. Of course Nobody mentions his great through ball to Sterling, and nobody mentions how bad Sterling's attempt was. But then again, as I've said many times before, Sterling gets a free pass as usual.
Sterling and bad. Two words frequently used in the same sentence. Yet Grealish gets subbed off first. Was he injured? He didn't look happy.
As I recenrly stated, by any basic data analytics "dimensioning" of Englands' top scorers (strike rate, game level, from open play / free kicks / penalties) Rooney is not fit to be compared to Greaves/Lineker etc, while Kane is. As for penalties, I have no doubts that a similar basic dimensioning ( % of total goals, game level, how many penalties scored arose as the scorer was the infringed etc) , that Rooney again is not fit to be compared to the likes of CR7/Messi etc,, while Kane is.
Greaves and Charlton had plenty of easy games. We played N. Ireland, Wales and Scotland every year back then and one of Greaves' hat-tricks was against Luxembourg
And, funnily enough, it seems to be the Mansourites who slagging him off the most on Twitter and Reddit Must be terrible to have all the money in the world but hear the word "No", mustn't it?
Except when somebody has the nerve to want to sign one of their youngsters who isn't playing, of course...
That midfield didn't make much sense and Southgate picked a few players on poor form. Grealish hasn't impressed me since his move, Sterling's largely been relegated to the bench and Kane has been poor. Who was supposed to be playing next to the holding midfielder, though? If you want the fullbacks to provide the width, then the middle has to have a bit of stability and protect the centre-halves. Too many attacking midfielders and nobody picking them out from further back.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58893127 "Gareth Southgate gave England's public what it wanted against Hungary and was rewarded with a deadly dull display greeted with a wave of indifference from a discontented Wembley gallery. ... the fare on the pitch was bitterly disappointing, lacking inspiration and sparkle. England's manager has been criticised for conservatism in the past, but his team sheet provoked excitement. It was the kind of line-up his detractors have long demanded, with Phil Foden and Mason Mount alongside Declan Rice in midfield and serving Jack Grealish, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling in attack. But there was the whiff of serious anti-climax around Wembley as the home supporters filed away into the night following a stodgy 1-1 draw, though England still remain on course to qualify for next year's Qatar World Cup." Show me in the real world where all the "detractors" were demanding that a starting XI contained the vast majority of the above. The last thing we need in addition to the classic FA suits "safe pair of hands" manager, is one whose line-ups could be wholesale dictated by "armchair experts" . The truth is that nearly all of above players are in the main flattered by the "embarrassment of riches" of club team-mates alongside, the great majority of whom are not English. And even Kane, the one on-paper "world class" player, is showing this season for both club and country that there is a baseline level of MF service below which he is next to useless.
That was the thing: all Hungary had to do was play a ball over the top and they had 20-30 yards of space to play with as neither Mount nor Foden could be bothered to track back Similar has happened with us this season when Nuno was pressured into playing Ndombele and Dele in the midfield three and, to the surprise of nobody, our midfield was routinely overrun until we changed back to having Skipp and Hojbjerg starting
Highlights of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic: Estonia's Markus Poom is the son of former Premier League keeper Mart Poom. Feel old?
Kalvin Phillips was a big miss last night, aggression and purpose in defence and the ability to run the ball forward from midfield, creating space for others. Would have rattled a few cages as well. Cheeky transfer window bid anyone?
I think it's impossible to make any meaningful comparisons. Just as it's impossible to compare Tyson Fury to heavyweights of the past who were 9 inches shorter and 6 stones lighter. Not comparing like for like.
It appears that Adrien Rabiot is the source of Theo Hernandez testing positive for Covid, which makes Gollini starting at the weekend a very real possibility So two things come to mind: first of all is how quickly we're going to find out if 95% of Serie A players really are double jabbed as the FIGC claimed, and secondly we're seeing yet another example of why the word "Rabiot" should be the French for "Complete and utter arseache for all involved"
