Sad thing is, that US team can dominate for the next 3 or 4 Ryder Cups, all young and hungry....they played some unbelievable golf
Yup, where's the young European talent coming through? We need at least another 10 high quality players coming through to compete & drive the standard. Ah well.
Had our local open today. Started on the back 9 and was 1 over off the stick for the first 4 holes and then went to ****. All up 3 over for 8 of the holes and 37 over for the remaining 10
Not at all. If it could go wrong it did on those holes. Hard against trees having to shoot backwards. The 9th (par 5) stuffed my tee shot and 2nd shot. 4th had me 10 yards off the green but as i'm walikng towards my ball i didn't see it and pushed my buggy over it embedding it into the ground. Chunked my 5h into the bunker and fell apart. 5 shots to get out Oh, and only 2 penalty strokes for the round too
Well I had a nett 69 yesterday in our 900 comp (church beside the course). Which is just playing under my handicap. However the arthritis in my ankles is so bad this morning I have pulled out of a game today.
Hmmm back to the range/lessons, that what I do when my form dips disastrously. A couple of times recently somebody has said to me, did you know your swayng back on your back swing. Another time, do you know your bobbing up and down on your swing. Both faults just creep in without me noticing, they are obvious to somebody watching you, but I never realised. Sometimes the 'fixes' are simple other times somewhat ingrained and they take a while to sort out.... I am usually the later.
I know what i did wrong today. Instead of just taking my medicine and punching out, i went for thr glory shots and either got them fat, topped them or made it worse. Should have played the percentages
I learned that a while ago.....With 25 shots you have to play the percentages... drop one or two shots and still score is the key...I have 9 to play with so my margin for error is slim, but as you say, I always take my medicine if I play a bad shot...One point better than nothing
Yep and it bit me on the ass today. My 5 iron is my go to club (170--190 meters) but instead of playing it when i stuffed up i went the full power 3 wood to get the distance back and more often than not topped it
I start going back to the range 2 weeks ago - I haven’t been all year, which is v unusual for me , but also explains why my golf has been so inconsistent this season. Anyway, a bit of time re-aligning helped me shoot 38 points yesterday, despite 6 puts lipping out from v short range ( the greens were woolly as **** mind), and 4 medicine balls resulting from the rough. moral of the story - always put in range & practise green time. I’m now looking forward to the comp this coming Saturday.
Totally agree about range practice, although I reckon having someone watching you, even using your phone to video yourself to spot obvious swing faults helps. That being said at the age of 68 I am not going to be hitting the ball any further. However getting better at the short game, chipping, putting and reading greens is what I reckon will keep my score respectable. As grass gets longer and wetter in autumn and winter, I have 6 iron rescue club that I have used for several years and I like a lot. I was given a hint that if you hold it a bit further down the shift you can use it as a chipper in longish grass. The last couple of games I've tried it and it is ( at the moment) working well. An old dog can be taught new tricks?
Not strictly true. I'm 63 and I started to lose a fair bit of distance and went to see the pro over here and he got me change the shafts in my clubs and its made all the difference, I guess as I get older, I will lose it year on years, but the change has put 20 yards on my drives
getting a lesson once a month or so is very sensible, just to keep you on the straight and narrow. Guy I played with Saturday, who used to teach, asked if I minded him giving me a tip with my driver - “just widen your stance”, and bingo. Stopped the slice/block. Just need to tweak my alignment off the tee as I ended up bombing my drives up the left. Want to get back with the big stick as bored of just hitting a 2-iron.
