Is that not the point of Paratici though? He’s been bought in to run the football team and he’s got plenty experience in doing this. I’ve expressed frustration recently because of how he was appointed but the whole point of it is to have an expert doing that, while Levy deals with the commercial side of things, something he is clearly good at.

I've not made up my mind on Paratici yet, but his role should've been filled much earlier.
Pochettino was opposed to it, yet still didn't want us to sign anyone that we could get, for some reason.

I see it as filling a position that was previously held by Levy.
The stadium development and the events that it attracts are a full-time job.
He can no longer concentrate on scouting and signings.

Levy has over £500,000,000 of equity in the club. There is NO CHANCE of Daniel letting some bloke he doesn't know have control over 'his' club. None.

Paratici reports into Levy and is given budgets by Levy. He has authority to do what Levy agrees with. Paratici was allowed nowhere near the Harry Kane issue and that is representative of his authority.

What’s the point in hiring anyone then, Levy could be doing all the books himself, selling the tickets, pulling pints in the stadium.

Of course Paratici is given a budget, how else would it work? I imagine he’s given a number and the rest is reliant on sales. On Kane, we have no idea what Paratici’s stance was on it, but given he’s irreplaceable like for like and City never made a suitable bid anyway (especially given how much they paid for Grealish) then it’s not even a question IMO. If they’d put 150m plus on the table in June then we’d have had a decision to make but they didn’t.

Paratici swayed Levy into picking Nuno and regardless of the rights and wrongs of that, it shows he has influence.

This is the odd thing: the people demanding we bring in a DoF also say we should bring back either Poch and Redknapp, two managers who outright rejected having a DoF

Personally I do think Paratici needs to have something up his sleeve for January, be it a backup striker or (preferably) a controlling midfielder so we get a better idea of how he wants to build the team going forward - preferably with players who go forward

Yeah I get you and that’s my thing with the appointment. I think it’s good that we have an expert in place that Levy can leave mostly alone to fix up the football side of things but the way the Paratici and manager appointment was handled smacks, as does much of the club’s football-related activity over the last few years, of opportunism, short term thinking and the lack of a plan. I hope the stumbling into Paratici works out as well as if not better than stumbling into the Poch appointment, but we’ll have to see.

I can't agree. There's no reason for the club to be carrying out non-football developments. Every penny that Enic spend on such things is money that's not going to be seen on the pitch...and there's loads of other projects at different stages of development.

Property development and running an entertainment venue are what they're concentrating on. If they were committed to making the club successful in sporting terms, they'd sell the projects on and we'd be able to fill the enormous holes in the squad...

They won't and the problem with 'jam tomorrow', is Enic will see that tomorrow never comes.

Enic aren't going to put anymore equity in, so I really can't see any possibility other than it's coming at the expense of the football team, just the same as the enormous additional cost of building the stadium to accommodate American football and using money generated by the 'proper' football team to do it.

Theoretically, use for NFL (boxing, rugby, concerts, etc.) would go to repay that expense...but only if there is an end to the conveyor belt of non-football projects. Given the extent of existing projects, it won't be for a decade at least and I doubt that the day will ever arrive where Enic can't find something with a better return for the club's money, than sporting excellence.

Our matchday and commercial revenue basically doubled with the stadium move.
That's without a bunch of non-footballing events at the new stadium.
That's over £100m a season before you add in the NFL, boxing, gigs, etc.
There's plenty of money in the kitty.

Why can't we afford the desperately needed striker and midfielders?

Our debt's gone stratospheric in the last 4 years. All of the additional event income will be swallowed up by the cost of interest and the eventual repayments for that development, That was to be expected to a lesser extent, however, the massive overspend has taken the gloss of the plan, as well as the possibility of it contributing to the team.

There is additional income from Spurs games at the stadium, but the fact that we're no longer in the CL or the EL, means that the football team isn't going to be any better off, if the club is going to take on a whole load of non-football related property development, as they clearly intend to do.

Enic should be getting back to running a football club and trying to make it successful on the pitch. We've seen this before...Irving Scholar decided to diversify the club's interests and made a right ****ing mess of things. Levy's not going to destroy the club financially, as he's the anti-Scholar in terms of gambling for success. However, it's impossible for money spent or debt incurred for non-football projects, to also be spent on a team that desperately needs additional talent.

Until Enic's priority is the team, or they **** off, I'm not sponsoring them to turn the club into a property development business.

We can. We don't have any space in the squad and are struggling to move players on.

The coronavirus lockdown virtually killed the transfer market.
Very few clubs want to spend any money at the moment and it's sending some to the wall.
Barca, Inter and the like are utterly in the ****, for example.

We also don't seem to have much interest in signing a striker, for some reason.
I don't know if it's something to do with the difficulty of picking up back-up for Kane.
Anyone who joins knows that they're not starting regularly.
Not sure how that prevents us getting in someone adequate, though.

Anyone coming here will have other clubs as options and unless you find a Llorente who is willing to spend a bit more time on the bench, or Vinicius who was willing to fight for his place (but was never given a huge amount of chances) then it’s just hard to find someone who will accept the lack of game time. We have money but not enough to pay a good player to sit on the bench most of the time.

Southampton have Adam Armstrong, Long, Adams and debatably Walcott.
Newcastle have Joelinton, Wilson, Gayle and Munoz.

I randomly picked teams that are all over the division, but not the usual suspects for the top.
If they can do it, then I can't see any reason why we're stuck with one striker.

Vardy aside, none of them have a top striker, so I'd say it's easier to sign multiple strikers as they'll believe they can join and be first choice. Burnley generally play two up top too, as do Leicester nowadays so that'll also help. I'd also say one or two of those were signed, flopped, then their club signed another to take over from them but just never sold the original flop. We rarely play two up top and Kane's never flopped to the point we've needed a new first choice.

Having said all that, it's still no excuse for us though, there are easily strikers out there who'd join just like Llorente and Vinicius did. We're just seemingly too stupid to do it. Two out of three seasons we've now gone into the season with one senior striker and then **** ourselves when Kane holds his ankle after any knock.

As for the spending money thing, I think as others have said on here and other threads, myself included, we're spending decent amounts nowadays but our problem is who we've spent it on.

We were literally willing to pay about £35m for Adama Traore in the summer too and it wouldn't surprise me if we go in for him again in January if he doesn't sign a new contract... We just don't ****ing learn.

Apart from Vardy we have at least four players who should and would be picked as a striker above almost all those you list. There would be zero point in signing any of them as they would never play.
