There were a few players over the summer who the HDM reckoned we wanted to sign but couldn't afford. There was a defender at Gillingham but we couldn't pay their price. Glad I set the expectation bar low.
Thought we started off well, Stoke felt a bit all over the place.
But playing Smith as somewhat lone striker against the man mountain (Souttar) was doomed to fail.
We seem to have 1 plan (hoof ball on Wilks or KLP and hope for the best). It was quite obvious when we actually (kinda) dominated the possesion towards the end of the second half and it seemed like the players had instructions not to shoot unless everyone touched the ball twice.
"Shoooooooooooot" is still echoing in my head from being in the stands
Wilks, poor, few times he got something going it was because of some lucky bounces

What was worrying me the most (except for the lackluster attack) was perhaps how easy the opposition seem to turn us around.
Jones or Greaves tend to push high up the pitch and when they get caught out/turned over....we in trouble.
What annoys me even more is that Stoke were bad, can't see them getting anywhere near promotion
Also, can we bury the bizarre rumour about the "magic atmosphere" that the Stoke fans have?
It was shocking, made me jump when they scored, literally forgot they were supposed to make some noise during the game, didn't even improve when they scored.
Thought Longman had a decent sub btw, at least tried to be more direct

Some of our signings weren't inexperienced kids. Why wasn't one of those a CB instead?
I still contend that he didn't see the need, or didn't prioritise or didn't argue his need strongly enough. It has to be one or more of those. He has to take responsibility for the mix he's ended up with.
None of our signings were proven. Closest thing to that was Moncur, released by Luton Town.
If we were going to sign an experienced defender, it would've been one from League 1 or lower with absolutely no business playing at this level.
We couldn't even afford to keep Reece Burke, who wasn't even particularly proven at this level himself.
It was no tongue in cheek comment when he said it, he was having a pop at those who suggested it ! Trying to make out they were wrong ! Let's not try to defend the undefendable here, he thought we had enough at the back, hence why he put all his Ehab eggs into one basket namely Slater then we know what happened there, McCann is so far off thee pace for this level of management its embarassing.
What is he taking responsibility for? How far below where we should be are we? We insist on imposing these absurd restrictions on ourselves and make ourselves the worst prepared squad in the division and then blame the manager when our league position matches it. It's Mike Phelan in 2016 all over again. Yes, he's been able to choose his players to sign within the budget structure available but it's such a stupidly tight budget we're talking about. They're his players but they're not Championship players.
You keep saying we couldn't afford to keep Burke. Burke left for non-financial reasons, we all know that, including you, so your point is invalid.
9 championship points in 84. 1 goal in 8 games. Sorry but you'd expect a decent league 2 side to do better than that against championship opposition.

And his record is appalling and doesn't look like improving any (hopefully it does and damn quick but I just don't see it as he's out thought, we're predictable, toothless (due largely to his system .... It's Mike Pejic btw. Was a very useful left fullback. Tough, but creative moving forward.
25% more in the last 5 games would be zero goals per game, or 1 goal in just 1 game. Absolute potential value - 3 points. Realistically zero points. The "We are doomed" scenario. I'm a glass half full type btw.

For one, Phelan was thrust into the job when Bruce left. Poor **** was doing his best in a job he probably knew he wasn’t up to. McCann was hired by Ehab to be a Championship manager of a Championship team with the expectation that he would keep us in the Championship. He failed big time, got us back up at the first attempt, and now continues to be a big fat ****ing failure in the league he was initially hired in for. He’s had two full seasons in charge of us now, he knows that Ehab is a slippery **** and knows how he operates and he gave a sarky interview whinging that fans were giving him and the squad grief for not having an experienced veteran centre-back.
He can get ****ed for me. Can’t stand his attitude, he’s a ****e manager at this level and I’m sick to death of hearing excuses made for him.
Lol its fine it's got us all feeling that way .. but ya know what I meant.. organised, hard to beat, creating more then we do now, being able to defend set pieces better, actually have a plan at our own set pieces!

That centre-half we were interested in over the summer from Gillingham was Jack Tucker who’s the same age as Greaves if I’m not mistaken. Talented lad but we were linked with him before we signed Bernard on loan. I’m guessing if we got Tucker for a fee, he’d be a ‘one for the future’ and we probably wouldn’t have signed Bernard on loan and probably still needed a more senior and experienced centre-back between the age of 25-35.

The embargo has ****ed us massively in the summer, regardless of McCann’s shortcomings. There was another centre-half called Jason Kerr who joined Wigan this summer from a SPL side and he was only a six-figure fee. Big, physical lad; only 24 but still more mature and experienced than Greaves, Alfie Jones and Bernard. Way too good to be playing League 1 this season and could’ve signed for a number of bottom half or mid-table Championship teams. Had we not been under embargo and willing to spend the £600,000 or so, we could’ve signed a player like him.
Of course. As you say, he doesn't have it - his own talent lacks, those supporting/backing him are clueless also.
A gift to the City? Hogwash.
