He would be really pissed off with that IMO after his showing in the T20 this season.

It would be annoying if we were to finish 4th, when we were one ball away from finishing 1st.

I don't see why, I said he shouldn't be in our Championship first choice XI, just a squad player. I'd certainly start him in our T20 side next summer, he does deserve that, for sure.

Oh sorry misunderstood you. Thought you meant he'd only be playing red ball cricket.

Yes, it's not been a great week or so for poor Brad, has it? He's come on in leaps and bounds this year, including with the bat, but his form has dropped off just at the wrong time. The commentators have been saying that he's been carrying a niggle and is not 100% fit, but he just couldn't step up to the plate with the enforced absence of Abbott

Ah, OK, re-read it myself and can see how you have read it. I meant that in red ball he would only be a squad player but he can carry on in the white ball team, yes.

Unless we sign an overseas batter (which I hope we don't, because I want Abbas back to partner Abbott), I wouldn't expect us to be signing anyone else to strengthen our top seven over the winter.

Even after removing Northeast's wages from the books, we'll still be adding Gubbins and Whiteley on permanent contracts. Three batsmen in one winter would be unusual. It's unfortunate that of the two, one of them is already here and the other is white ball only - ie nothing being added to what we currently have in red ball.

I think Hants are hoping (and expecting) Prest to fulfil his somewhat large potential sooner rather than later. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in the Championship XI next year.

There is no need to be so damn rude. I think some guys on here were supporting Southern Brave because there were a few Hampshire players involved, and the Home matches were played at Southampton.

Some people are just anti-Hundred. Although they are nothing to do with Hampshire itself, Hants fans (like me) will naturally support them as they play at the Ageas Bowl and are captained by the Hants captain.

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to be rude, just my feeling that it wasn't related to the 'County game' when summing up Hampshire's season

There's two places certainly up for grabs. I've given up on McManus, in all formats, a while back. So on the basis that I'm content to give Alsop another season, he can take the gloves full-time, and someone can come in for Lewis. The obvious candidate being Donald.

And then there's Weatherley. A total walking wicket. But he can clearly hit a ball. And it's a tough job asking anyone to open. I'm not writing him off like I am with McManus. But if someone like Prest wants to volunteer for the job, he's probably worth a go.

I've got no idea if we made approaches for the players at the time, but there was Hameed, Wells and now Davies that we've missed out on in the last season. Wasn't sure how the first 2 would go at their new counties, but they have done well.

Warks to aim for 130 to 150 in the morning session, and set Somerset roughly 300 in two sessions?

Or look to get them in about half an hour before lunch, but maybe only with a lead of 260?

What are your thoughts on Holland? Seems to have been a bit quiet recently and hasn't been asked to bowl much, but his season stats are pretty good in the Championship.

Don't forget he was originally a makeshift opener too.

Looks like Div 1 standard bowling has been too much for him. From memory he feasted on Leicestershire bowling in the first stage. And their bowling is er...... not very good.
