So owning a word some a few may call you, and using the same word to call fellow blacks is ok and somehow not racist, bearing in mind that the Spanish which there a millions in America, have the words Nigga and Negro in there language
Taking the word that is used to discriminate, enslave and degrade and "normalising" the word within their own culture. Similar to a gay man referring to another gay man as a queer.

Unacceptable to be used in terms of discrimination. Allowable within that culture as a means of normalising the word

The word "negrito" (which is what I think you mean) is a Spanish word to describe a black person and is (or should be) seen in the same way as a white person referring to a black person as "negro" - unacceptable but unfortunately still widely used

I wasnt aware of that. Its used mainly by white africans/aussies/kiwis aimed at black people in my experience.
Kenya is home to 3 million Somali refugees, all Muslim who insult there hosts on a daily basis, they also carry out atrocities against Kenya on a weekly basis, just because it never makes MSM headlines doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The Un promised to help Kenya with the refugees they never did, and they wont go back home due to the chance of having a green card for America like ILhan Omar

Homosexual is still used in the Netherlands to describe those people, both in everyday language and in MSM yet they have Gay pride parades once a year organised by themselves at the governments behest. They also have a tradition when ST Nicholas helpers are called Schwärt Piet where people paint themselves black dress up and go handing treats to kids

I'm not entirely sure, not being South American, but I have read various articles which suggest that the use of that term is much more complicated than that in Latin American society.

no real difference to us and the middlesboro lads... 'mackem' and 'smoggie' were basically derogitory words originally, but both sets of fans took them onboard, mainly to give themselves a seperate identity to 'geordie'.

while not racist terms it is the same in principle.

There is a long tradition in minority groups of taking a word and "owning it"

A lot of people in the gay community adopted the word "queer" in the 80s in a way to neutralise the effect of the idiots on the street calling them it

Possible that black people have done the same after years of slavery and oppression and being referred to by that awful word
That would be my guess on it.

Remember a few years back Spuds fans singing Yid Army and Yid Yid Yid... always seemed strange to me. Glad they've stopped (I think).

Good point.

I guess they feel that they can say it to each other but if a white man says it then it's rascist which in itself is rascist as well?
What happens if it is said on the radio, how do people know whether it is ok or not?

If a radio station plays Olivers Army (Elvis Costello) the n word is always edited out.
Annoys the **** out of me tbh.

A lad I was mates with years ago said to me, one night in the pub.
"I wouldn't mind if you called me a nigga".
A bit shocked, I said "I'm not going to call you that Wilf FFS " .
And he said. "Yeah but I wouldn't mind if you did".
I said something like, "well I wouldn't mind if you called me a honky white snowflake fooker" <laugh>

I assume he realised I looked at him as just another bloke .

I worked on scaffolding with a lad from Africa who came over to play rugby. He'd never heard of the word.
But he said if anyone called him kaffa he'd rip their fooking head off.
