Heard some TalkShite this morning, and they are certainly living up to their name. Ronaldo mentioned several times in rather glowing terms (actually completely over the top as you might imagine) but not a thing about the slap, while again mentioning how professional he is etc! However all changed as "journalist" Martin Lipton was on with an eye witness account of the match, which of course was again rather sickening in terms of praise for Ronaldo/God, and the missed penalty was actually mentioned but quickly dismissed. He even mentioned the slap... drum roll. He said the defender was touched on the shoulder and went down like a sack of spuds. So there you are. What you can see on the video here clearly didn't happen, and of course if you were just listening to the radio without seeing the clip here you would not be any the wiser. I obviously don't need to mention that the Connely incident wasn't mentioned in any of these Ronaldo love-ins. I can hardly wait for his return to the PL now, can you?

Incidentally hasn't Ronaldo-God a history of getting away with it, even in his first PL stint? I'm sure there was a case at WHL when he stamped on the chest of one of our players who was on the ground without any punishment. Considering where it was I suspect it was whoever our right back was at the time. Also I remember him diving (oh how he will be welcomed back) between two defenders, touching neither of them, and getting a pen. Anyone remember these two incidents?

And all this talk of God has stopped mentioning the rather important point which is that The Republic was cheated out of a result.

The brief bit I heard was all about his six pack and how gorgeous he looks and that came from McCoist and Parlour, thought I had turned into loose Women

Seems Kanes my conscience is clear article this week shows that his PR team have learned nothing from his extended holiday gaff , the advice should be shut your mouth ,don't speak to the press about anything other than football matters
Kane is not doing himself any favours

Racist bastards
Totally predictable I'm afraid.
Hungary is run by a Populist fascist and large sections of the population are perfectly ok with this.
Overt racism has plagued this area of Europe for years and sport (particularly football) has been a lightning rod but FIFA etc have done nothing.
Worldwide bans from all competitions for a minimum of 5 years and large fines paid to anti-racism charities ( not to FIFA) would be a start, but won't happen.

And so it continues...

Getting the right punishment is much more complex than it seems. For example it has to be punishment that is seen as punishment by those receiving it. For all we know it might be seen as some kind of perverse badge of honour. We assume these racists will be affected by the punishment - you've got to be careful when assuming that everyone thinks the same way. Other problems are
> punishing people that have nothing to do with the problem
> just moving the problem somewhere else
> if you punish people that believe in what they are saying/doing then you could be simply reinforcing those beliefs
> how does the punishment change people's mind about their behaviour

If the punishment doesn't change someone's attitude then it is not much more than making us feel better. There is certainly some merit in that, particularly to those directly affected, but it doesn't do much to prevent repeat problems later on.

We all apply our own value systems to such situations and assume that punishment we would not want, they would not want either. This is not necessarily true. Find out what they don't want to happen to them, and work out what would actually stop this happening again.
