A win against 2nd place west ham, we won without lallana, grinded out the win, best attendance ever at st marys and 5 points clear. THE BEST TIME TO BE A SAINTS FAN. COYR

But here is a question, when is the last time we were top of the league and clear by 5 points?

Again, what a result

1949-50 and we were 8 point clear. I'm not that old, I just remember a bit of Saints history. ;)

Still over the capacity<doh> it was 32,152;)

Radio Solent kept on saying it was 32,352, but I think they meant 32,152. Interesting trivia. After the stadium announcer said 32,150 - a stadium record, plenty of people texted and emailed in to say, correctly, that the record was 32,151 against Arsenal. So they got a couple of people from outside into the stadium to get the new record. I like that. This club shows initiative.

BTW, absolute capacity [without any segregation at all] is 32,689.

Yeah but effectively the capacity is what the crowd was tonight beacuse segregation is a requirement and will always be in place. I bet the crowd for the Pompey game in April will actually be smaller than tonights as there will be more segregation!

Amazing win. Was so nervous at the end. We were inviting so much pressure in stoppage time, was screaming at midfield to play higher. and should have run the clock down more in their corner flag. so happy when ref blew ft

Was pleased when they took Carew off, phew! Thought West Ham were solid but no idea why they did not start with Noble. A close game but I would have been disappointed with a draw if we had conceded late.

The reason they took Carew off was because he'd shot his bolt by then but what a handful before he flagged, definately a premiership standard striker and a typical Allardyce player. Thought it spoke volumes that Noble was only a sub, a known creative player

Thought our centre backs and keeper earnt their money tonight under the late bombardment; note most crosses were from deep and not from the byeline which made a big difference. Also a great chant when Jose screwed up and the Northam immediately broke out with Jose Fonte BABY (after the miss)....you could see he appreciated it and didn't put another foot wrong (apart from hitting his own post <yikes>)

A hard earned win against a good side with premiership standard players - Onwards to the Madejski !!

Yeah it makes a difference from people lambasting the players, I still don't understand why people get at Davis, he made two crucial interventions tonight even if he is rather bohemian even for a goalkeeper!
