I think he may have seen the vitroil directed at other owners and decided it's not for him.

Can't blame him, but as you say massive pity.

Above is true and it was the abuse the Needler family got which persuaded them against getting involved.

He didn't want to be in the public eye, did he? Especially after the traumatic break in. You can see why with some of the comments that were in the HDM. Fortunately they are now deactivated. Idiots saying he shouldn't be described as a Hull billionaire as he lived in Westella. How pathetic.

    Genius lyricists too

Wine is sweet and gin is bitter
You drink all you can but you won´t forget her
You talk too much, you laugh too loud
You see her face in every crowd

That´s the price of love, the price of love
The debt you pay with tears and pain
The price of love, the price of love
Costs you more when you´re to blame

Kiss one girl, you kiss another
You kiss them all but you won´t recover
You´re dancing slow, you´re dancing fast
You´re happy now but that won´t last

That´s the price of love, the price of love
The debt you pay with tears and pain
The price of love, the price of love
Costs you more when you´re to blame

That´s the price of love, the price of love
The debt you pay with tears and pain
The price of love, the price of love
Costs you more when you´re to blame

Amazingly Phil and Don's mother has outlived both of them. She is 101.

That's quite sad in a way, parents should never be burying their own imo.

So sad to learn that Don has passed on to join his brother Phil. I have so many great memories from the 60s listening to their incredible harmonious melodies and great songs. "Let it be Me" is extra special to me from the time I met and married my beautiful wife almost 60 years ago. We will play that beautiful song again today and shed some tears together in Don and Phil's memory. God bless you too Mrs Everly (101 and still living) for giving us your wonderful sons and their amazing music. RIP Don...we will miss you !!

They were wonderful. My first exposure was in '60 when their song "Cathy's Clown" became the first song on the Hull Telephone's service - think it cost one penny or tuppence to get essentially as many repeats of the recording as you desired. Remember the line-ups outside pay phones opposite Darleys in the "recca" on Boothferry Road in Hessle.
Of course we never paid, we'd learned how to "tap" out a phone number by then.

Bit sad that the brother's families took each other to court in the last decade to battle out "ownership of composition royalties' of said song - which was ruled in Don's favour only a couple of years ago.

Saw them perform about 35 years ago in Quebec on t'other side of the Ottawa river a few miles from Ottawa city.
Place was run by the local Hell's Angels Chapter. Bloody marvelous night.

    So Sad...

RIP lads - gave so many so much pleasure.

Ignoring the fact that this isn't appropriate on the RIP thread, Eddie was out of the kitchen business years before Five Star played at his event, so he had none of his own kitchens to install.

He was a lovely bloke and will be missed by many.

    RIP Eddie.

That song , and Let It Be Me are probably my two favourite songs of theirs followed by Walk Right Back.

Tapping out phone numbers. Brings back memories. Nowadays young uns have a meltdown if their Internet connection is slow. <laugh>They didn't speak for years. It was that great English guitarist Albert Lee who got them back together and organised the reunion concert at the Albert Hall in 1983.

Wish I could get to that.
Saw him back in 1966 when he was in the Thunderbirds backing Chris Farlowe. Though he is now known as Mr Telecaster I believe he had only the second Stratocaster in this country when he got one, the other one being Hank Marvin's

I don't recall seeing Albert Lee live, but in retrospect if he was still playing with the Thunderbirds & Chris Farlowe in October '65 I must have in Leeds ?
My memory is turning into Muddy Waters !<laugh>

:emoticon-0148-yes: Well there you go, you've just confirmed I have seen A.L. without knowing - unless he missed the line-up that night in Leeds in '65. Cheers

Eric Wagner, 62 - rock vocalist, sang with the metal band Trouble and also on Dave Grohl's side project, Probot. Great voice and big character. RIP
