Yes, from his very initial contract. Have been multiple offers since. If he signed initially he would have been fine but he thought he was destined for bigger things.

I wouldn’t do that would make him turn up for training so he has to travel or stay here not let him stay at home getting paid for nothing

panic buying has done us over the years Flo, included. I would get the highly rated Sheff u lad in, and play Hawkes more, give him 20 mins tommorow he needs to rotate the squad. what we don't want is this hanging on situation like Tuesday, we should be clobbering teams from start to finish.

Bloke is an absolute arsehole. Pay him off if need be. A huge mistake from the rotten Donald era.

TBH mate I don't want him, and his attitude, anywhere near our young players.

Having players like him, Maguire, Jones, etc, around the club is like having woodworm in a wooden leg ...

.... hard to control, eating away at your infrastructure and worryingly close to your crown jewels <laugh>

You always seem to mention Maguire. He was a good player for us at this level.

You're right mate, I do that quite a lot ... perhaps I should explain why.

He was a good player for us but only in around one match of five/six and, even then, not for that much of the game.

On the rare occasions he made a real impact it was usually with a moment of quality in an otherwise poor performance.

As a percentage of 'time against actual contribution' I'd give him no more than 30%.

It's easy to pick out events like his goal against Portsmouth, in the play-off semi-final, but it's not enough to get us out of this division.

He was a passenger, for most of his time, and his attitude was lazy and surly.

You can carry one passenger, if they can conjure up moments of magic, but we have McGeady in that role who's miles better than Maguire.

I doubt you could argue with that.

Can’t disagree with anything there, bang on. Nobody can argue with his release and he won’t be missed if the likes of Embleton can produce on a regular basis.

    Thanks for that reply.

Players like Pritchard are so much better than Maguire in my opinion.

There are others I'd like to lose, such as Grigg, who simply don't run around enough.

That may sound silly but running for 90 minutes is beyond players like Maguire ...

... they're highly paid 'athletes' so, imo, that's totally inexcusable.

When people called Maguire 'The King' Charlie must've rolled his eyes.

I totally agree with what you have said, but those flashes of quality in games and the ****housery made some pretty dull games almost tolerable <laugh><laugh>.

We were correct to let him go though, he doesn't fit the new profile of player we want at all.

It was all we had at times tbh.

Looking back our football was absolutely dire ...

... the Wigan game was like scales had fallen from my eyes.

In this data driven age surely there has to be a mechanism introduced where a player who can be proven as not trying can be ditched without having to be paid off.

We should do with them what I do with cars that break down needing expensive repairs ...

... rent a digger, bury them in the garden and claim on the insurance.

    Works for me <laugh>

Does anyone know what is meant by 'being closer to his family'? Has he left his wife and kids in the Midlands and going back at weekends or is he missing his great aunt?

He doesnt want to nbe here, fine tell him to stay at home, don't infect the club with his **** attitude.

Hes not training at 100% then fine him and tell him to stay away.

Most of us would give up anything for the chance of playing for any professional club, these paracites need hounding out of the game

Wigan clearly needed the coin when you seen what happened with them. Probably sold him the "greater good" story. I remember Portsmouth doing it to a load of players years ago when Liam Lawrence was there, they were skint and made the players feel guilty for not cancelling contracts that they had signed in good faith.

Absolutely spot on. As an amateur runner who dies it tur enjoyment, I can run around 10 miles in 90 minutes. I’m 46 and a little overweight. I understand it’s a different type of exercise, but I can still play football fir an hour and a half. Especially with a 15 minute break half way through.
