FFS, banging the same drum.

We'd all love us to sign a couple of fullbacks but there could be a multitude of reasons why we haven't yet.

1. Wrong type of player
2. Inflated price
3. Piss poor attitude
4. Too old
5. Max Powers mate
6. Gender neutral
7. Injury cloud
8. Wages demanded
9. Current club not ready to release
10. Doesn't want to relocate
11. Mate of Max Power
12. Barcelona are interested

Need i go on?
Half of those would be sorted in due diligence of scouting. To suggest we couldn't get 1 suitable player in is ludicrous imo. Oh and Barcelona can't sign anyone ;)

Any manager worth their salt will work on the opposition’s weakness. Now whilst they may be ok at full back, it will still be considered a weakness and they will try to benefit from it. But I’m sure the club also are aware of it and will hopefully get those full backs over the line. I don’t fancy going into January with two midfielders at full back and the replacements for them will also be playing out of position. If we don't sign a full back, however unlikely, that will be unforgiveable. We need to stop putting in players cos they might do a job there, its OK short term but not long term. O'Nien did for most of the season but it isn't sustainable and I think he eventually suffered. Not just that but look at the creativity we lose by playing Neil and Gooch there, its a two way street

Squads not good enough though is it. It's missing 3 or 4 defenders. 3 would be starters and that's before looking at strikers. We also are a couple of injuries away from struggling to put a team out. I hope to see this rectified but we're painfully slow at getting people in so far.
I hope this shuts you and all of the other cry babies up. This is what the decent supporters have been saying all along. Now it is coming from the top hopefully the message sinks in and you can put your dummy back in <ok>

Sunderland boss, Johnson, knows the Black Cats need more signings but he insists he won't compromise on quality and pad out his squad with 'average' players.

"It's no secret that we'd like to have more [new signings], and I'm sure they'll come throughout the coming days and weeks,"

"There are a couple of holes in the squad and we are working extremely hard behind the scenes to get the right players, because it is all too easy to sign an average player."

"I'm holding out, and we're holding out, for quality."

"I think clubs, including this one in the past, can make mistakes by rushing out and panicking."

"We have a good 14-15 players who are fit, sharp, cohesive and understand how we play."

"Yes we want to add quality, yes we want to add numbers, but I am reluctant to put timescales on it because there are things spinning all the time and they could fall in 24 hours or it could be 24 days."

"Clubs rushing out and panicking"

Like Wigan maybe ? :D

Can't really win either way, if we signed a load of players early some would call them shìt  <laugh>

Nice to see we're putting in plenty of thought and process into things for a change.
Hopefully bodes well for the future.

Same talk as always. No one says they aren't buying :) wasn't that long ago he was saying he wasn't sleeping, then appeared to change his comments after telling off from the club. I've always posted what I feel and never slaged anyone off. If your resorting to name calling you've already lost imo.

When we sign fullbacks I wonder what people will find to moan about next, some people are never happy, being a Sunderland supporter has never been easy but we are only 7-8 months into a new ownership period during which the new owner has had to deal with a global pandemic, re-structuring, stadium and academy upgrades, squad overhaul, probably contract issues for players. KLD has made massive progress despite all those issues, give the fella a chance, we still have the rest of August to improve the squad, I have no doubt they will.

I'm not suggesting buying anyone. Never have but ti suggest we've nit been able to properly strengthen to this point is wrong. For whatever reason we've chosen to leave it late. A few injuries and we're in real trouble.
No its not. If players to improve our side haven't been available on terms that we're happy with then we clearly haven't been able to strengthen. Leeds, for example, splurged a load of money on top players in the early 2000s but it didn't strengthen anything, ultimately, despite a brief blaze of glory, it weakened the club.
As the club keep telling us, the reason they've left it late is that they're not willing to waste money on mediocre players.

It's arguably easier to waste money late on when pressure builds to get players in. To suggest that we couldn't find one full back in world football available to us in our budget since may is just crazy.

On the verge of completing a deal for a very highly rated lb and the Tottenham fans aren't happy about it, been are number 1 target and pulled out the deal for Gallagher for him, surely if the club pull it off and have waited for the number 1 wouldn't you rather that?

I only called you all cry babies. I think you being a touch precious saying I'm slagging you off.

You keep being negative about our club surely you can expect some negativity back from our supporters in response?

Its arguably better to wait until late in the window when squads are more settled and players higher up the league realise they aren't going to get game time and start to look for a club where they are more likely to start.
To suggest that position and budget are the only factors we consider when looking for players is just crazy.

Its easy this game, isn't it?

As we need backup I'd have thought we'd have gotten both. Be interesting to see who else they get if spurs lad comes in. Or will we look to "get by" with just one lb and hope he can play 40 odd games.
