That only leaves France who have no professional clubs, erm Scotland ( ditto), The Cook Islands ( ditto), the Isle of Wight and Papua New Guinea. Not really a 'World Cup' at all is it ?
Gives us half a chance of winning though...:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Gollum said on SportsTalk the other year that it showed the strength of rugby league in these islands that not just England but Scotland, Wales and Ireland were all ranked in the top 10. My e mail suggesting they had a walk round Hull offering a prize to anyone who could name the champions or cup winners in those other countries was not read out. Maybe my comment that they wouldn't have pay anything out even in the rugby league capital of the world won't have helped.
I was out in the car this morning and heard a bit of Burnsy. Someone wrote in saying it didn't matter as all the other teams would be bringing their A game to the competition and there would be some great games and it would boost tourism and bring money in. They live in an alternative universe.

Heard KCOM have offered one of their phone boxes as a Fanzone for this one.

You really are very uncharitable! A lot of people like RL and will relish seeing a World Cup game whoever is playing. I'm sure many people will enjoy watching a big sporting occasion whether they're RL diehards or not. Its disappointing Aus and NZ aren't taking part but it gives lesser nations a better shot at doing well.
I can't find ticket sales numbers but the authorities say sales have exceeded expectation.

Don't be so grumpy about it! :emoticon-0100-smile

I remember a World Cup game involving World Champions Australia ayf he Boulevard which had a crowd of 3,000, which included a load of freebies, whilst on the same day a 4th Division match at Boothferry Park against Mansfield had over 9,000. No doubt the Fail had an article about it being a rugby town.

Define "a lot". And " a big sporting occasion".

He got an on the spot fine, never went to court and was back at the next game. None of the hours of investigations, court appearances and banning orders instigated by Corcoran when someone waves their arms about 50 feet away from someone else at a City game.

I said I didn't know how many tickets had been sold so I can't define 'a lot'. A 'big sporting occasion'?. It's the World Cup for god's sake, blokes have been working towards this for years, it's the biggest occasion many of them will ever experience and all you can do is make sniffy remarks. Give it a rest for heaven's sake, it does you no favours.

Good luck to them. I have a lot of admiration for the toughness of rugby players of both codes. But the way it is bigged up in Hull, especially by the HDM and RH, has, in my opinion, being detrimental to City down the years.
