You can do happy Brian - lets say your at the100 club, and The Damned are up next, tell me you are not smiling now!

Now let me offer you 1 single journey back in time, unfortunately my time machine can only offer 1 journey to 1 time and that time is Sept 1976 and you can stay for a year, so you can see punk explode again but you also have to suffer Spurs being relegated would you go?

Like a shot. I was one of the 26,000 who turned up on the final day in '77. We played Leicester (and won 2-0, which was a ****ing rarity back then) but were already relegated, I didn't have a season ticket and I was bound to have been short of money...but I felt that I had to be there. I needed to embrace relegation and get ready for Oldham, Mansfield and Hull and stand on The Shelf and shout myself stupid on that hot sweaty afternoon.

I'd even go back just for the football. Going to football was ****ing fantastic in the 70's and early 80's. If you missed out, I'm sorry, but it's never been anything close to it since. Sitting down is bollocks. Having to buy a ticket in advance is bollocks. Memberships are bollocks. Standing on The Shelf was like being the king of the world - win, lose or draw. It just was.

Unless I've missed something, the rumours linking us to Cristian Romero make no sense: he's halfway through a two year loan from Juve so, unless Atlanta have triggered the option to buy him, they're in no position to sell him - and if they have triggered the option it would be a bad decision to go for him as they'd hike up the fee from what they paid

Ali Gold says that Paratici negotiated the loan deal and as such he knows the costs involved and reckons that the 2 clubs can make it a win/win, but I like you have my doubts.

The theory is that as Paratici was the man who loaned Romero to Atalanta in the first place, he knows all the parties involved. So Atalanta will trigger the buy option they have for (I think) about €16m and then we’ll hand them a nice profit on top of that so Atalanta can reinvest in their squad.

And the beauty of going back is that you would know better times are around the corner. Ossie and Ricky were a year away, back to back FA Cups were on their way and you'd get to see Glenn Hoddle develop into one of our greatest ever players. If I'm standing I would hope to avoid some of the crushing/violence that happened then and as long as I had my 1970's knees, then that would be fun. Musically, I would get on board with Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Clash, enjoy Genesis before they go too pop (including P Gabriel's early solo work), and sit tight until I could lust after Kate Bush in a few years time.

I'd imagine the priority will be bringing in some cash for the players who will otherwise leave for free next year, which includes: Lloris (although tbh he's worth keeping for a year), Aurier, Lamela and Sissoko.

Beyond them, contract lengths of our weaker players make it very difficult to see any serious buyers showing interest at a price worth considering. I.e. it might be wiser to gamble on them having a better season under Nuno and being worth significantly more next year.

Of the bunch many want gone, Dier will be the hardest to shift due to his age, contract length and (ridiculous) lack of home grown status. Winks, Alli and Sanchez will be easier due to their age and/or HG status, but tbh of those 3 I can't see us selling Dele unless an improbably high bid comes in. Levy will be clinging to the hope that a(nother) new manager can reignite the old Dele and suddenly we have a £70m asset on our books again.

There's also claims that Toby wants out but unless he's willing to take a hefty pay cut, that is unlikely.

Lamela, Aurier, Sissoko, Winks, Sanchez, Foyth and Toby out in one window to my mind is an enormous task and if we do it, represents excellent progress.

I reckon we could recoup circa £90m-100m from selling the above, which isn't great but can fund the purchase of 2 top players.

Oh yeah I missed Lamela off my list.

That’s 13 players at the club that I personally don’t rate.

Obviously they’re not going to sell all of them in one window but I hope half can be got rid of.

We view the 70's like Spurf sees the period between the wars...

Going to lots of gigs has the benefit of keeping my knees in 70's football mode. Mr brother's season ticket was in Row 10 and the stewards let fans stand throughout. So, I reckon I'd be okay, although the average age on The Shelf in the 70's was about 18, not 59 as I now am...<wah>

Today's batch of reports have Sanchez heading there way as part of the deal, but I think this is where joining the dots has entered the conversation

I can understand using Sanchez as a makeweight to get the Kounde price down, and Sevilla agreed, but this looks like a straight swap between players so we're not topping up the transfer kitty

I was often on the Shelf in the 70s. Maybe I bounced into you when Hoddle scored one of his free kicks (did anyone ever save one of those?)

I'd try and get as central as possible by getting there early. Probably my strongest memory is Ossie's header against United in the cup in '78. I can't think of a day when it was more packed and when that went in, the stand was moving all over the place.

I cannot see a single club being interested in Dier. Truly awful player with an equally awful attitude who - at 27 - is supposedly at his 'peak'. If this is his peak, I shudder to think what he'll be like when he starts to decline.

Everyone laughed at me 3 years ago when I said we should bite United's hand off for £50m. Even though my prediction that Sanchez would be 'the next Ledley' was somewhat wide of the mark <laugh>, I read Dier like a children's book.

Not me...I'd sell every player who tarts themselves around. They piss me off tbh.

Morning all. Been battling covid the last week and a bit, absolute **** of a virus this thing. Thankfully wasn’t serious enough to send me to hospital but bad enough to knock me for six at home, it’s only been the last two nights I’ve gotten some proper sleep. Just about starting to turn the corner now thankfully, mad how long it seems to affect you.

Been keeping up with all the transfer stuff (obviously, lol) and does indeed look like Gollini is gonna join. Can’t even pretend to know much about him but I’ve said before that Atalanta have basically been the Leicester of Serie A in recent seasons so hopefully it’s a decent signing. From the way the deal sounds I reckon he’ll play backup this season with potentially taking over from Hugo next. Hugo’s been amazing for us though overall (even if he can’t kick a ****ing ball!) so if Gollini is the long term heir he’s got huge boots to fill.

As for outgoings, it is disappointing we’ve not shifted anyone. Actually feel sorry for Nuno he’s had to come in and work with some of this lot, lol.

Glad you're on the mend mate
