Morning all. Been battling covid the last week and a bit, absolute **** of a virus this thing. Thankfully wasn’t serious enough to send me to hospital but bad enough to knock me for six at home, it’s only been the last two nights I’ve gotten some proper sleep. Just about starting to turn the corner now thankfully, mad how long it seems to affect you.

Been keeping up with all the transfer stuff (obviously, lol) and does indeed look like Gollini is gonna join. Can’t even pretend to know much about him but I’ve said before that Atalanta have basically been the Leicester of Serie A in recent seasons so hopefully it’s a decent signing. From the way the deal sounds I reckon he’ll play backup this season with potentially taking over from Hugo next. Hugo’s been amazing for us though overall (even if he can’t kick a ****ing ball!) so if Gollini is the long term heir he’s got huge boots to fill.

As for outgoings, it is disappointing we’ve not shifted anyone. Actually feel sorry for Nuno he’s had to come in and work with some of this lot, lol.

I cannot see a single club being interested in Dier. Truly awful player with an equally awful attitude who - at 27 - is supposedly at his 'peak'. If this is his peak, I shudder to think what he'll be like when he starts to decline.

Everyone laughed at me 3 years ago when I said we should bite United's hand off for £50m. Even though my prediction that Sanchez would be 'the next Ledley' was somewhat wide of the mark <laugh>, I read Dier like a children's book.

I think you’re being a little harsh on Dier, though he’s definitely not at top 6 level. He had a few injuries and bulked up too much, losing that yard of pace. He also fell into the complacency trap that a couple of Poch players did, including Trippier. You’re right though, in hindsight biting United’s hand off for £50m seems like a no-brainer.

You were missed and it's good to see you back.

Why do you think that should be?
Is the BL piss easy or do Dortmund have fantastic coaches.
Not so much coaches as scouts who can identify the right player for their system

The thing with signing players who are perfect for a specific system is that they aren't perfect for every system, for example Andriy Shevchenko was perfect for how both Dynamo Kyiv and Milan were set up, but certainly not for Chelsea's system of tactical fouls, parking the bus and occasionally scoring goals

Nah. Dier to me is the same as Winks is to DH. Makes me grimace just seeing him in a spurs shirt.

I think his attitude over the past few years has compounded my disdain for him (one thing Winks can't be knocked on, incidentally). That whole incident of climbing into the stands after the Norwich debacle stands out as one of the most seriously wrong things i have ever seen any professional player do in over 30 years. I would understand if his family had been under physical threat and in actual danger, but then when the documentary showed the behind the scenes, it becomes abundantly clear that Dier simply lost his temper after another ****e performance and tried to assault some bellend who was mouthing off to his brother. Not pleasant but at the same time - zero excuses for doing what he did. Maureen backing him up was also totally the wrong call and smacked of a manager desperate not to add yet more failings to a shambolic display.

Dier's comments in the documentary after the incident also made it clear that he subscribed to the Rooney school of thought which is to say that fans should spend hundreds of £s to attend a game but are never allowed to vent frustration and should always smile at and cheer for the players.

At the time, I was willing to forgive the comment as one made in the heat of the moment (although the facial expressions of many of his team mates - Dele's especially - betrayed the fact that they didn't agree with him at all). But then toward the end of last season he comes out with that interview Rose-esque for its stupidity and poor timing. In it he basically said he felt the fans were being unfairly critical and that he didn't feel he'd had a bad season.

Deluded, self-absorbed and useless.

The fact that I am putting counter opinions to these Levy out views is showing that I respect they exist and consider they are important enough to be countered. To call my view facile and ridiculous is surely going further along the road of disrespect than I have.

Your argument that Levy should go falters because there is no way of controlling who takes over and with what agenda. IMO that is just throwing Spurs to the wolves. It's my party and I'll cry if I want to never wins me to anything. Simply if you are going to make such demands then expect to be challenged.

Likewise, if you tell me to go and watch another sport because I don't agree with your views, expect to be told where to poke it...with all due respect.

I'm going to go out on a limb and presume Gollini would be very similar to Pau Lopez - loaned in so we have plenty of time to see if he can be Hugo's longterm replacement

Preferably with two differences: he gets a few games, and we don't try to renegotiate the fee to turn the loan into a permanent

Yeah, that’s fair. The interview at the end of last season was particularly ill-advised and he would have done well to show more humility.

The whole climbing into the stands thing I didn’t feel as badly about though. Fans absolutely have the right to criticise a player but going after family is never on. Social media-enabled fan culture in this country is becoming rotten in so many ways - see the Euros for more examples than you’ll ever want - and I just wish the Dier incident had sparked some change. Clearly it hasn’t though.

Of course I wouldn't expect anything less but it's not exactly because you don't agree with my view it is simply a suggestion that if you are that unhappy then you should consider looking at the whole point of the exercise. I don't really understand what you are beefing about. You hold strong views and are not afraid to air them. GOOD that's what the forum is here for but equally so do I. Let's remember who is suggesting we tear up the present board and look for new owners. IMO that is far more radical and far reaching than anything that I suggest.

I was born angry...it's the state of being that I understand and cope with best. Happiness is something that I'm having to learn about.

Don't worry about me. If you're happy with the current load of bollocks going on at the club, I should be worried about you...<laugh>

You can do happy Brian - lets say your at the100 club, and The Damned are up next, tell me you are not smiling now!

Now let me offer you 1 single journey back in time, unfortunately my time machine can only offer 1 journey to 1 time and that time is Sept 1976 and you can stay for a year, so you can see punk explode again but you also have to suffer Spurs being relegated would you go?

No it's why you should question yourself. I live in Scotland, more people smile here. Everytime I come South I am reminded why I moved away such a bunch of stressed out bastards. AND I can park my car here. <laugh>
When I think of Scots, the word I most associate with them is dour. Smiley, not so much.
