And even if one of them wasn't to be available (which looking further ahead could well be the case if we make Finals Day), the fact that Abbott played that one group game vs Middlesex means that he would be eligible. (Any overseas player needs to have played in at least one group game in order to be eligible for the KOs.)
This then makes Somerset not "Greater Somerset" but "Super Somerset" if Barbados and New Zealand are included. It is almost an "Empire" in its own right. By the way I am super sad as Glamorgan have taken away the wooden spoon trophy from my beloved Middlesex.
Enjoy the second part of the summer Chilco, Brendy et al!!!! I have no particular loyalties for the 100 as players that represent our counties are involved in various franchises. I just hope the weather is set fair for this inaugural tournament. An old friend of mine often talked about the need to put roofs over cricket grounds. He is now deceased but what about using Wembley and the Millenium? And as television is providing a large chunk of the revenue, Gibraltar would be a brilliant venue for a franchise - weather, large numbers of ex-pats, .... but that maybe for the future.
I went to my first live sport since November 2019 (which was a BUCS American football game). It was Birmingham bears v northamptonshire Steelbacks in the T20 blast. It was of course socially distanced but it was so nice being in a live stadium among fans, and I the second innings, a mixture of alcohol and Birmingham taking quite a few wickets led to a party atmosphere with everyone singing along to various songs and dancing and what have you. Was a good game. Despite Birmingham setting a target of 191, the match wasn't settled until the last over. It was great, especially as I've had two previous games cancelled. One for rain and one after covid restrictions were extended.
And an astonishing one for Middlesex over the mighty Essex Eagles who are performing more like sparrows this season.
Lammonby’s knock which rescued Somerset yesterday. @Saints_Alive mentioned yesterday that I was slagging him off earlier in the season, which is true, because he wasn’t living up to his potential. He is undoubtedly a future superstar, but those pitches back in April didn’t suit him at all, and neither did the pressure of being in the top order. Somerset have obviously looked after him though, and putting him in at 6, even with a lot of work to be done, certainly worked yesterday.
Alex Davies is leaving Lancs and going to Warwickshire. That's a shame as he would have been a perfect signing for us - he doesn't always keep so could have opened the batting and left Lewis in the team as well. Ah well, wasn't to be. I guess having Donald back next season (hopefully) will be like a new signing in itself.
Yeah that's a great signing for Warks. A proper three-format player, who can play with or without the gloves.
Still on a bit of a high from Sunday. Was driving back today from job in Exmouth- just worked out; 199 balls bowled with 50 boundaries! Not to shabby!
So they did! Not exactly a full strength Somerset side, but Cornwall will be delighted with that. No doubt there will be calls for them to be given first class status if that sort of thing continues.
