Does anyone genuinely believe we’ll be right up there competing for promotion this season? The bookies having us favourites for the title is absolute crazy. No chance.
I think the only reason we are favourites is because of the takeover and how much we are worth now. Everyone from the outside looking in is expecting us to start throwing a load of money around .. Unfortunately it seems like our new Chairman gets a weekly allowance and pocket money from his mam still, so thats not the case.
I don’t need to have a word with myself thanks. I’ve got an opinion which is just as valid as yours. For me there is an air of desperation if we aren’t all of the same opinion. We aren’t and won’t be. Some fans are happy to wait until the end of the window to judge the work completed by the recruitment team whilst others are becoming increasingly concerned at the deals completed and rumoured. There isn’t a right or wrong here, everyone is entitled to their opinion and the club need to ensure that we are in the best shape possible once the window closes. None of us want to be in League 1 this time next year and for me at this stage we appear to be light on numbers, quality, experience and nous.
I for one will wait till the end of the transfer to judge the overall Ins and Outs... Even then I will want to see the players live and see what the results turn out to be.
Im very frustrated at the lack of movement aswell mate, look back on this thread and youll see that. However i dont agree in signing a player that we dont necessarily need. Embleton scored in the playoffs last season, and assisted one of the goals in the final. What did Fraser do? Whoopy do he was one of Mk Dons better players, we'd better rush out and sign him then and send Embleton back to Blackpool or some other League 1 team that he can help promote?? We also have Pritchard who is potentially at a much higher level than league 1 and a young kid in Hawkes that has got glancing admirers from teams in the Championship and the Prem. We dont need to sign players just to stop Promotion rivals from getting them. Id rather see us bring in a quality striker, winger, Fullbacks and Central defender
Don’t have an issue with your comments. I don’t agree with you but as previously stated we both have a right to our opinions. I’m really worried about where we are at present in terms of our squad, but ultimately we aren’t in control so will wait and see shape at the end of August. Enjoy the rest of your evening.
I don’t mind people being cynical or nervous or frustrated. I think we’ve had a pretty crap window so far, despite Pritchard and Evans being good punts. But what does my tits in is people that act like it’s final or complete or game over. Everything can change in 6 hours ffs.
Personally I’m worried that we underestimated that everyone else wouldn’t have a pot to piss in and so thought we could work with a limited budget and Hoover up all the players we needed to and have the best squad in the division. But then it turns out that both Wigan and Ipswich have cash to burn and Sheffield Wednesday have managed to retain most of their championship squad. And that’s before you get to the likes of Wycombe and Rotherham who came down with them, and the likes of Lincoln and Portsmouth. personally I think we are nowhere near having a team that you can look at and say “that team should definitely go up”. There’s still time for that to change. But everything I’m seeing and hearing so far is reducing my confidence daily. BUT saying we will definitely not get promoted and that KLD is just another chancer etc and we have no chance is ****ing ridiculous. With a good run of form the squad we have now could probably even get promoted with maybe just one or two additions. This league has shown that you don’t need to have the “best players” as long as you find a good system and hit sustained form. it’s just a shame that a club of our size isn’t seemingly able to stamp our authority on the division and making the others fear us. If anything the rest of the league is laughing at us. I don’t really care what they think, just want the club to get it right. I still have faith. But as I say it’s fading!!! Help me out Speakman and co!
I have to be honest, I haven't paid any attention to the window. I'm assuming the club will want to go up, will have offers on options for every position needed and will hold their nerve until the last second. I've seen enough 'bodies coming in' and panic signings to last a lifetime ... ... it calms people for as long as it takes them to realise they're not what we really need.
as things stand it would appear the club have so far aimed for creativity (wyke managed plenty of goals when he had the right service but only one real 'purple patch' in his time here) with better service into the front man/men and the right type of service then we dont need a 30 goal striker, we can get by with a couple of 15-20 and a few more from the rest of the team (although who knows that with the right service, stewart does not manage 30, or a striker yet to come in). plenty of ifs and buts as there are every bloody window, is he good enough, is he injury prone, is he what we need etc etc etc but the only way to tell is when things start to happen on the pitch... my usual '10 games in' and i will see what my view is then, right now i am sitting and waiting and as frustrated as everyone else.
For those saying that Evan’s isn’t good enough, I’ve nicked the below from ‘The Cabbage’ on RTG, bear in mind this is in the league above where Power and Scowen both really failed to make the grade: Just had a bit of a trawl through the stats from last season on whoscored. Assorted highlights for Corry Evans against all midfielders who made 5 apps in the Champ: Tackles per 90 - 73rd (fairly average, but....) Interceptions per 90 - 14th Times dribbled past per 90 - 14th Accurate short passes per 90 - 9th Dispossessed per 90 - 40th So a general picture of a player who was solid in the championship when he played. If we can keep him fit he'll do a decent job for us at this level.
I doubt that mate. I was aware of all their potential and spending power before the window opened and I’m just a punter do the club definitely would have been.
I'll try and dig out Johnson's interview about him, I've only seen it yesterday. He said that Hawkes has got the talent and ability to turn a game but he's not physically ready, yet. He asked him to go away this summer to train hard to try bulk up and he'll be assessed when he comes back. He mentioned a loan move might be the best option for him next.
