Just looked it up, I don't know that pub. Looks like it's on the boundary of Margate, comes under the borough of Thanet (Isle of Thanet) - so lets just say I'm sadly not surprised. I think it was a UKIP stronghold. Plenty of reports in the media over the last couple of years in the area. This just being one by the Labour Party speaking out against it... https://www.souththanetlabour.org.uk/councillor-sends-mp-shocking-report-of-racism-in-thanet/ Quote; I am an Iraqi Kurd. I came to Thanet 22 years ago when I was 17 as an asylum seeker. I became a British citizen in 2011 and a Labour councillor for Thanet and Broadstairs in 2019. I have first hand experience of the casual, everyday racism most ethnic minorities suffer in Thanet, but I will not quote my personal experiences here.
I haven't given much thought to the penalties. Just can't focus the loss on that at all. We had the opportunity to win it in the first half when Italy looked lost and the likes of Chiesa and Insigne were losing their rag in frustration because they were under the kosh and had no answers. We could and should've pressed home the advantage then. Mancini deserves a lot of credit. 10 mins into the 2nd half he takes off Immobile and Barella. I remember thinking at the time wtf!! He brings on Berardi and Cristante, and gives Insigne and Chiesa a completely free role to drift into every position, every pocket. The movement of the Italy side after that was just brilliant tbf and the goal was always coming. That was the difference in mindset between the two managers imo. Funny thing is at around 90 mins Mancini starts taking off his best players, he had little choice - Chiesa, Insigne (who didnt have a great game tbf), Verratti all going off and England start coming back into the game again. At this point Southgate had another opportunity to win it with the quality he had on the bench. Mancini showed his worth when it counted, but Southgate missed his chance to do the same.... **** happens.
Splendid analysis, as usual. I hadn't noticed Chiesa before this tourno - I have now. Hes top drawer. But he only came into it in the second half. We had them on the rack in the first 20 mins. Wonder what would have happened had we got a second.
Big difference is that Mancini is a winner, his trophy count is nothing to scoff at. He knows finals.
I've seen Saka's penalty several times now, and looking at it, I thought the kick was ok, can't odds a decent keeper saving it, but that's not his fault. That took some balls at 19 to even achieve what he did from that spot, in front of the eyes of the UK and Italy.
Age old problem mate. Police use to be the target of football fans, but they've been removed long since from the game, to be replaced by the yellow and orange jacket brigade - and although they are useful for peaceful supporters, they are left wanting when trouble arises. They probably not trained to the level required or have legal authority to do much anyway. The cheap option, compared to the expense of proper policing. It also shouldn't go unmentioned that we've also generated a game that is no longer affordable for many, so I'm very careful before casting judgement on those rushing the gates. Have we learned lessons from Hillsborough, I've always argued we haven't. People in sections they shouldn't be, blocking aisles. I'd be very concerned if I was running Wembley and so should the whole of the football governing bodies. If we got fined for booing an anthem I would expect a big hammer coming our way in staging any future events. Unless those governing bodies are as blind as they are to racism. Promise to sort these problems but never do.
