I'm not sure a members democratic process along the lines suggested by Roger will work. What's needed are some clear, permanent rules about what constitutes a banning offence, every member made aware, and then there can be no argument, and Mods can act consistently, which everyone will understand.
From my perspective, constant winding up is irritating and pointless. To use the analogy some have already mentioned,if we want this board to have the feel of a load of Sunderland fans getting together, chatting and debating in the pub over a pint or two, it wouldn't be long before the constant wind-up merchant, with very little other contribution to make, would lose his invitation.

Good point mate. If i recall correctly there have been quite a number of times where members asked the mods to ban Wolfy. I guess if we're going to want a democratic decision then the mods have just done what the electorate wanted. If he then reappears under a different guise then he goes again.

Whether it was GA or Marcus who banned him they technically don't need to tell us all why however in this instance it may be best to put it all to rest.

Not everyone posts every day, some only read and rarely post, so the idea of posters voting for bans/reinstatements is a non starter.

But, just for fun, let's have an IN or OUT 'vote' the Mods can look at regarding Wolfy/Pablo. It's as valid a vote, as any other, so let's see.

I'm voting OUT

I did have wolfy on ignore but I've never really seen much of pablo as I don't come on as much. If however he did come back on as Pablo after being banned then I think banning him again is the right decision.

This is the best approach - make it clear what you can & cannot do and take your medicine. There can't be a vote every time - this isn't Sweden.

If this was the Victory, Wolfy would have been exorcised a long time ago.

Snowflakes?

I'm not in favour of banning members and would never ask a mod to ban a member no matter how much I might dislike what they post.

Wolfy was an abrasive character who was definitely a Wum, that is probably against the AUP. If you constantly go against forum rules you will be banned. He can't then come back in another guise and start posting again. How long would it have been before he started his negative posting again? And the whole process would repeat itself.

As far as members voting on banning or other moderating issues I consider myself a guest here, a non paying guest and therefore have no say in how the forum is run and moderated.

Totally agree with all that.

I've been here for ages but don't feel I should have a say in what goes on. If it becomes more trouble than it's worth I just dip out for a while until it calms down. When it's invaded by Mags, wums and cliques the place becomes a tedious mess. I'd say this is a happy normality and most seem happy with the way things are.

So do you agree a person should be banned and his posts deleted without a word of why or when, its not fair its not right, we have all had disagreements on here , I speak as i find and don't do subtle, this is wrong and smacks of Gestapo tactics, explanations are required as to why and re installment a must its for the board to decided do you agree with that sentiment Sam, i twice saw action for this type of **** on a larger scale

if rules are broken, or there may have been something said in PM (a warning or reminder, for example) then i would expect either a 'cooling down period or an outright ban if i was being a total dick and i would not expect the mods to have to explain why to other posters...having said that, there are times when we are not privvy to certain posts/conversations so it might help to see why it happened.

being a mod, mainly is simply a part time interest and unfortunately there are times when a choice has to be made...no idea why 'wolfy' was banned but i presume 'pablo' is the same bloke and that might explain it, if it is simply down to his posts then that is very harsh in my eyes.

Pablo isn’t banned.

Not been here very long, so all I would say on the matter is - whatever stops this place from becoming the same as over the road, I'm all for. Proactive moderation and openness is how to do that.
then instead of hiding Gordon should tell us why he was banned because it wasn't abusive language and he wasn't warned just banned, Why delete all his posts if you have nothing to hide. i get it some didn't like him, most posters on here came from over the road because they were banned, all i ask for is fairness not doing things like a thief in the night.

then why ban Wolfy in the first place no one has shown why he was banned he wasn't abusive to anyone, all i see is he said a few things that some posters found negative but tell me who wanted to ban him,

I think there's a perfectly acceptable explanation over on Gordon's thread. Constant wummery spoils the place.

I'm not sure the software allows it but it would be nice to see why others have been banned somewhere. Maybe a stickied 'naughty list' with a quick explanation? We don't have to agree with the reasoning of course, but I'd rather nip stuff like this in the bud before it gets nasty. That was left too long in other places and is now the default setting.

Why delete all his posts then, if a few didn't like what he said why do they have more say than the rest of us, why weren't we told Wolfy was banned, and Just because somebody assumes he ia a wum doesn't say he is

I have see lots of posts where people have said exactly the same things as woly said and HE WAS RIGHT IN LOTS OF HIS VIEW POINTS.
