... where he outlines his aims for the coming season/spouts endless clichés and management-speak. Delete according your pre-existing viewpoint https://safc.com/news/team-news/2021/june/johnson-on-pre-season-return
Speaks well and good to hear there is plenty of investment off the pitch. Now, sign some ****ing players, win some ****ing games and get us the **** out of this ****ing league
That's a good point. Allardyce is generally well liked and has 'achieved' to a degree so is often credited with using data, psychologists, specialist trainers, etc. Managers like Pep & Klopp can spout any amount of management-speak and it's accepted. But, as people have rightly said, Johnson needs to deliver performances to match his words. That doesn't mean what he's saying is wrong though imo.
I'm very confident this season. We've got to be surely? The pedigree of KLD and his family in football is totally different to the Texas ranger when he rocked up. Clear plan in place, massive restructuring of the club behind the scenes (and more appointments still to be made iirc) fan engagement, improvements off the pitch. I definitely think they will get it right on the (brand spanking new) pitch as well. Let's ****ing have iiiiiiiitttttttt!
Yeah, I didn't either, it being July next week has really snuck up on me. I don't mind the management speak. I'd much prefer that to a dinosaur who won't move with the times.
Agree. My niggling worry about LJ and is management speak is that there is little success to back it up. Once he has proven his ability then I'll have this back of my mind niggle silenced. Mind, I thought this interview was the most management jargon free he has given since his arrival and thought LJ came across as a normal bloke for a change.
Nothing wrong with it at all, but towards the end of last season I got sick of hearing his cliche-ridden interviews being trotted out while our performances on the field withered away to ****. So I appreciate this interview as a pre season opener, but now I'd rather not see or hear from the man until maybe the photo-call for the new squad (remember that?) to introduce all of the new players that he's spent all summer finding. Then we'll see what he's about.
I forget which old school manager said it but let's go with Jock Stein. He said that football players brains are too small for all the outside things they're trying to process. So you need to keep the football instructions really simple. In Wyke's case this was 'keep onside, get close to the goal, make contact'. I'm sure Johnson has the big picture in his mind but only gives simple individual instructions to each player except, perhaps, his captain and a couple of trusted senior players. IMO Johnson knows what's needed and how to do it and tries to reign in how he's going about it ... ... but isn't yet experienced enough to keep his cards close enough to his his chest.
Obviously a lot of change going on. The club needs a change. Hopefully the hard work lands the right personnel. Looking forward to seeing who and what type of players we land.
I honestly don’t think we will look at any player coming in and be doing cartwheels I think they will be total nobodies but will fit the position required perfectly or I hope so.
