It was a surprise that he picked Sterling as, like you say, he'd not been in great form recently. But he had a good game against Croatia as did several other players. With 26 players to choose from, I'd be surprised if he had any particular 11 in mind as a first choice. Tournament football, especially in the modern game, is made for a game by game selection, as he showed with the full backs yesterday.
Again. I don't get the "worrying" comment because he's basically saying there are many options for the 1st team. It's a positive thing
Depends on your point of view of course and if you are after an established XI then maybe this isn't the tournament for you
You see I thought Sterling was poor against Croatia, the goal aside.
He got us to our first world Cup semi since 1990, his aim at the minute is to get in to the last 16, yes last night was a **** game but he's still on track to qualify so I can't really see why anyone is moaning. After last nights abject performance what do people think, should he go after the euros are finished and if yes who would you have.
Two things got to me last night, we weren’t playing well but he took our best outfield player off in foden and brought grealish on. For me it should’ve been Phillips for grealish for a bit more attacking play in the middle.
2nd was bringing rashford on for Kane, again for me I would’ve brought Calvin Lewin on whose more of a direct centre forward. Their 2 c/b had a way to easy time with Kane.
Personally think Southgate should be away as soon as we are out of the comp, don’t know who takes over from him but there must be better out there.
most of the moans stemmed from his big fat gob and taking the knee and the words used to describe fans who booed, i have already said my bit earlier but managers have been sacked for less, well until this woke shyte broke outHe got us to our first world Cup semi since 1990, his aim at the minute is to get in to the last 16, yes last night was a **** game but he's still on track to qualify so I can't really see why anyone is moaning.
See how he does in the rest of the competition and judge him at the end.
I sometimes wonder why anyone would want the England job, you would think we had just been beaten and knocked out the competition
That's why I'm asking everyone's views on it, it is a message board and everyone has a different opinion including yourself so thanks for contributingHe got us to our first world Cup semi since 1990, his aim at the minute is to get in to the last 16, yes last night was a **** game but he's still on track to qualify so I can't really see why anyone is moaning.

What do we reckon the market value of England's forwards are? Off the top of my head I think it's not far off 500m worth in the squad. My moan is that England have lots af good attacking players but rarely look like scoring ...
... when a defender has your best attempt and you have one effort on target I'd say people are entitled to a moan.
We've played two home games, against teams with no chance of winning the competition, and have managed three attempts on goal. Football is supposed to be entertaining and exciting, not just a dreary grind to an objective.
I've always thought for some reason we've always struggled against the weaker teams, fingers crossed they improve when we play the better teams and the games are more open. I just don't think we move the ball quick enough when teams sit back against us.My moan is that England have lots af good attacking players but rarely look like scoring ...

Spot on!He’s absolute toss.
Best generation of players we’ve had in 25 years and he’s playing 2 holders rigidly every game.
The man is ****ing clueless. We should be making the oppo worry about us not setting up to be ****ing tight.
The quality we have going forward is outrageous yet we are absolute dross to watch.
Opinions like. Thought he looked pretty sharp for someone who was supposed to be out of form. I remember him wriggling past two defenders from a standing start and one or two other bits and pieces. You see I thought Sterling was poor against Croatia, the goal aside.

Don't disagree there. Although sometimes you need people to run at the oppo and frighten them a bit. I think Sterling is a better option for that than Grealish, who seems to be another one that the media love but seems to have no real end product.now i wondered what he had done to be included, although i agree he 'looks sharp', at the same time he looks like he tries to do too much, just pass the feckin ball into the middle rather than constantly trying to get past 2 players and run along the line.
i feel that is what cost him his starting spot with city, rather than keeping it simple he seemed to always want to take men on, while it looks good when it comes off it usually ends with him losing the ball.

Form players? We have form players? First I knew of any!again i agree, nothing better than watching a lad run at defenders, keeps them on their toes imho but it needs timing, much like any other action on the pitch and doing it nearly every time just means they double up on you, if they are never sure if you are going to pass, make a run or chip a cross in they need to cover all possibles...lately all defenders need to do is block sterling as he either loses the ball or runs into them, they dont really need to tackle.
grealish really does flatter to decieve, plenty of running but rarely actually gets anywhere bar the free kicks...but this is england and the media darlings will always get top billing ahead of form players.
give me strength. I will be rooting for the Italians for the rest of the tournament. The prick wants shooting for not starting Grealish again, it’s absolutely inexcusable. I genuinely hope we don’t get further than the last 16 with this clown in charge, just to make sure he’s jobless at the end of it. What a ****ing waster and he genuinely thought that was a good result last nightgive me strength. I will be rooting for the Italians for the rest of the tournament.[/QUOT
So you don't want our National team to progress so you can slag the manager off, what the **** kind of **** life do you have. You absolute miserable knacker, do you take joy out of any thing positive?
I know you're a troll, that is clear from your posts, what do you get out of it?
Why do you post your negative drivel?
Do you get up everyday just to be a knacker?
Think you’ve slightly understated that!!!!It was always thus, if England are not world beaters and win the European and World Cups sack the manager... cos it cannot be the players fault. All England players are brilliant and just need the right manager to unlock their ability.
Well Kane is certainly the best CF we have had for a while, but last night and in the game before he was ineffectual (that is being polite). The two defensive midfielders were not much good and neither was Sterling tbh.
Pickford kept us in it (MoM?) despite what that useless commentator (Dixon) said.
Scotland were well up for it, had more energy and purpose, and we were not.
Of course Southgate as manager takes some of the blame, but imho the players were by and large cowed by the Scots fervour, and too many of the so called stars had poor games.
