... I've really tried but I think he was actually a knacker and have decided, after all these years, his music isn't that good.

I know you're not supposed to say it but it all sounds really whiny and dreary.

I mean, come on ffs 'three little birds on my crumpet' and 'nee wimin nee cry' ....

... it's infantile.

And don't get me started on Bohemian Rhapsody, absolutely idiotic.

What's singeing your underpants ce soir? I mean, Queen are a bunch of pop rockers a la Sweet, but Bob Marley made his own sound his own way and is a fugging legend! "Could you be loved" one of the great songs IMHO...

As it happens, I listened to a Bob Marley cd the other day. I thought at the time that it was pretty bland.
Also I watched a film about the making of Bohemian Rhapsody last week. Marvellous darling as Freddy might say. And it gave us the wonderful scene in Wayne’s World. It is hogwash. But it is in good company with the likes of A Whiter Shade of Pale, not to mention half of Dylan’s songs.

I believed I like BM at the time but I now believe I was brainwashed. Same with Bohemian Rhapsody which I now think is idiotic nonsense.

I think it's because I've stopped listening to the media and started looking for music that isn't endlessly pushed by the media.

I like Bob Marley, also I particularly like Redemption Song but I would never describe it a master piece. It's probably one of the easiest songs that you will find to play, I can't comment on vocals because I don't sing, but I'm wondering what the criteria is for it to be deemed a master piece?

Cultural impact. Storytelling. Pure emotion. Authenticity.

I'm sure there are Metallica songs out there harder to play, with 18 minute guitar solos. I don't really want to listen to them.

Anyone could have written or played it. But he did.

Personal taste isn't it.

It wasn't his norm though - which is good thing btw. It was even said it was a detour from reggae. Btw I'm not criticising the great man, I was more curious. I'm not a great fan of simple chord songs, they tend to bore me and show no desire of creation, yet, Bob Marley managed that desire of creation. I read somewhere in the comments he nicked it, I'd be interested to know where from, so I can go check for myself, to see if it supports the claim. Although many artists do copy others even if it's only for a few seconds, there will always be something that is stolen, such is the nature of music.

Well it sounds like a slave folk song so that wouldn't surprise me at all.

I tend to be with you on the increasingly simple songs but that one just staggers me.

I just don't get all the stuff about atomic energy and The Almighty when he was smashed on dope and shagging owt that moved, tbh ...

.. and all that drivel about Babylon when he was flying around in private jets and raking in millions.

I think you have to be completely stoned whilst listening to BM otherwise it really does sound like dreary ****

John Lennon was exactly the same. Turn of your mind, relax and float down stream. Heroin and acid. Imagine no possessions... the **** owned 2 million pounds worth of prize cattle and a 120 foot yacht.
