For the last couple of seasons, the big off-pitch focus of the club seems to have been the training ground, which will culminate this summer with the £750k SoccerBot installation. It seems like that's "mission accomplished" on the training ground front, Colney will be the only training ground in the country with that facility, so we can clearly claim to have created a top-class training ground. Going to be interesting to see what's on the agenda. Sponsored name for Carrow Road? [We'd all call it Carrow Road anyway...]
 
I think, particularly in light of our self sustaining model, increasing capacity at Carrow road should be pretty high on the agenda irrespective of whether we stay in the PL next season or not.

I'd like to see it too, but the returns on stadium expansion do take years/decades to realise so I can see why they'd be hesitant. Do you stick £20m into Carrow Road, to maybe increase stadium income by £4m/yr (£40 tickets x 20 home games x 5000 seats) - or do you buy a dozen promising youngsters for that price and expect to flip one for £30m in 3-4 years?

Or do you consider that process well advanced and this years flips might be Emi and Arrons, One to bolster the squad, the other to pay for the ground expansion? A one off sale to further enhance our long term security.
But would they risk it at a crossroads, where we might just have the means tobuild a team that could stay up? It wouldn't be popular to invest in anything other than the team, but they would likely ignore the noise.

In the current economic climate and covid fueled uncertainty I would expect ground expansion to be a low priority.
 
Taking a positive view of Placheta's remarks, I put that on the transfer thread with the comment:

"I wonder if he might have a Cantwell type boost in the PL where his pace could have more impact against teams pressing forward rather than packing their defence. If so, he could be almost like a new signing."

SW has said that he's looking to recruit quality rather than quantity so I doubt we'll shed additional players when we already have 4-5 places available, and more if players leave. Placheta clearly feels that he's developing under DF and his WhoScored ratings for his 8 starts as a wide AM average around 6.9, so there is potential there if he can improve the goals and assists.
 
Good article Cromer and we need to remind ourselves of those limitations going into the transfer window. With around £15m already spent on Gibson and Giannoulis, spending is going to be restrained as we look for bargains. SW's comment about 'improving the whole' if one of our gems is sold suggests an underlying strategy. £30m plus would give some room to maneuver in a tricky market, but a large chunk would go on replacing the departing player. Getafe's 20% of a Buendia deal would reduce £40m to £32m straight away, but if we spent £8m on one of the replacement players rumoured, that would leave around £24m to strengthen the rest of the squad.

It's also worth remembering how many of our present players weren't around in the previous PL season: Gibson, Giannoulis, Sørensen, Placheta, Dowell, Hugill, Mumba, McCallum, Sitti, Sinani, Famewo, Omobamidele and Soto. Those leaving since then is a shorter list: Vrančić, Tettey, Leitner, Trybull, Drmic, Lewis and Godfrey, so a lot of strengthening and rebalancing has already taken place.

Trybull, Leitner, Drmic and Klose all have another year on their contracts; their wages are still being paid. I imagine Webber had them in mind when he spoke about needing to reduce the size of the squad.

I know Klose is coming back, but have we heard any news on the others? It sounds like Drmic has had a sparkling close to his loan so hopefully he garners some interest. Trybull unfortunately seems to have been injured quite a bit, but my understanding is that the Blackburn fans and manager quite liked him - he ought to be well in demand amongst Championship clubs chasing a playoff position.
 
According to Transfermarkt, the contracts of Klose and Drmic expire in 30 days time unless the club exercises the option for another year. Trybull and Leitner both have another year to run. All 4 of those were in the PL squad two years ago, which is another indication of squad development.

Rick, the way I read it is Klose and Drmic are both on contract with us til 2022. Timm could be useful this season. I don't know if the club are done with Drmic, or why. Wouldn't be surprised if both were told to find another team for next season.

I don’t see the benefit of telling Klose to find a new club - sure, tell him that we “won’t stand in your way” if he wants to leave and finds a new club, but he’s experienced and talented, so we have nothing much to lose by including him as a back up centre back IMO

I may have been a little hard in the way I put it. He's been one of my favorites since he joined and I'm still a bit miffed that he left us last October.

I have just been reading the PinkUn Q&A with Connor Southwell and something about the tone of the comments about Emi worried me a little. I get the feeling Connor is being instructed to prepare the fans for losing Emi. Maybe I'm over-thinking, which is something I am prone to do. But for me, while everyone else is theoretically replacable (except maybe Pukki if we keep our current style of play), if Emi goes, our chances of staying up are massively reduced. Where are we going to find someone who can do what he does for us?
