Yet after being transferred again, and dropping down a division, he set a record for the most goals scored in a season (42) for his new club - a record that still stands.

Of course you mean the legendary Norman Heywood (Norrie to his friends) who played an astonishing 1 game for Watford (1933 ?) in which he scored the memorable number of 0 goals. Raith Rovers achieved the 142 goal record. I only know all this because my close friend hockey playing partner and PNE season ticket holder hails from Kirkcaldy.
That's him - quite possibly the only player Watford have ever signed, or are likely to sign, from Peebles Rovers. His solitary game for Watford was in a 2-1 home victory over Gillingham in 1933. Over to you.
