The pandemic has changed the way a lot of us work. There's no longer the need to have every worker travel to an office base anymore. It's an opportunity to look at the whole issue of commuting.

Go give away all your stuff and live without power or transport, and when you've decided in 2 seconds time that you won't, you can then explain to me why you believe everyone else will.

I was watching something on the electric car charging problem the other day, that is what they are aiming to do, force people out of their cars, so that only the well off can have the privilage, I kid you not.

Hence why they don't give a toss about the charging problem is my thoughts.

We're not talking about living without power or transport though are we. Surely that issue is about finding sustainable ways of doing it.

Musk has it. Look at the Tesla home battery. Charges from a solar panel, feeds into grid when full and let’s you run home/change car.

hydrogen would be the best option as a distribution network exists that just needs a tweak. But **** me it’s energy thirsty to produce.

Quite scary really, I don't think I've been on a bus in this country for decades, and I mean decades. Been on them abroad, but not in the UK.

I would rather catch monkey aids than catch a bus.

But we still seem to be missing the point, millions of people can't park anywhere near their home. I can, Piskie can, you might be able to, but many can't and I've not seen anyone give a solution to how they will resolve that. Even if you use charging stations, it could be a couple of miles from your home, dependent on your location. That's without adding on charging time and the cost of all this.

I had to get a bus to my nearest town when my car broke down a few years ago. The ****in thing went round the houses, into all the little villages, which I suppose it what it's supposed to do to pick people up. But it turned a 20 min journey into a 1 hour one.

So you can see why people hop in their car instead of using the bus, especially in rural areas where there's only 1 bus every couple of hours.

The only fair way to conduct a cull would be the postcode lottery. Instead of giving them money just shoot them when they open the door. Keep the prize money and use the money to invest in green energy.

As long as its not reported in the news everything will be fine.

Can you still pay in cash on the buses, and does the driver still get the hump if you give them a tenner? <laugh>

The treasury currently rakes in circa £28BN a year from duty on petrol / diesel, plus the 20% VAT on the 2m+ new cars that are sold every year. They’re far from eager to lose that, but the pace of infrastructure investment is currently too slow & doesn’t correlate with the 2030 deadline for the end of new petrol / diesel cars.

I'm guessing here, but surely you could charge your car at a charging station and it would have enough charge to get you home and back to another charging station when you need it ?

In the same way that you fill up with fuel to ensure that you've got enough to get home and to wherever you're going the next day.

That said, I have seen people with an extension reel coming out of their house, into a charging cable that's then plugged into their car. That will have loads of old biddies tripping over cables on the pavement though <whistle>
