Because it was an opportunity for him and he loved the club... Ahh OK, so you are saying, the backroom staff have been great.......good for you!!
You can never tell I guess. Sunderland do get through a hell of lot of Managers, and under new and very ambitious owners that are still stuck with a club in L1 for at least another season, so nothing would surprise me.
I am not saying that they were great, but it took a player, a newly signed player to boot to highlight how bad the backroom staff were, not LJ not Holden, oh no they just took the money and did as they were told. In the case of Holden especially he never once defended his player against what was happening, his player, somebody he signed. If he didn't want them then yet another reason to commit to another 4 years of servitude. LJ is no different to anybody in the football universe, they all have choices, the difference is some choose to not to take the money and the blame that comes with it, it's not like he wasn't aware of where his place was in the BCFC pecking order and he chose to accept it. He is in a similar position now, if he honestly thought that going to Sunderland and losing in the play offs would not affect his status as manager then he is deaf, dumb and blind, this is Sunderland supported by a fanbase that believes in it's own entitlement and a club that is probably 2nd only to Watford for changing managers.
Plenty Sunderland supporters still backing Johnson, the fracas outside the ground was down to a minority of fcukwits, we all have them. Quite intriguing reading this thread, Johnson must have done a decent job, can't remember yous reaching the dizzy heights of the championship top half since the 70s, until Johnson rocked up. Maybes his sacking was a bitter pill to swallow, hence the reason that you can't let go, and there was me thinking that it was the rovers that were called the gas. Best regards.
In 2008 his father took us to 4th in the championship, when we reached the final after beating Palarse, we lost 1-0 to Hull at Wembley. Kind regards.
Good answer mate, there are some amongst who as you say can't let go, there was a lot of of us would have given him the boot ages ago so no bitter pills to worry about, maybe a gag would have been better. With us 4.5 years and gained 5 places, I wouldn't call that dizzy heights, I hope he is a success for you and you get no streakies. As for the characters who were shouting at him, your description is bang on, enjoy your football and good luck.
No other manager in the history of BCFC has had anywhere near 65 signings in 4 years. And left City with a squad bereft of quality and needing extensive surgery. You will regret ever employing Johnson. Best regards.
The real problem is he had his time and was sacked and to be fair never ever made excuses 'once he was gone'. Others do that for him. But apparently he never had any power, never made any signings, never agreed to any sales, probably never picked the team, formulated the formation or tactics, probably given scripts, it was all done by the CEO and now apparently his backroom staff, but still he signed a 4 year contract but was probably paying subs weekly and not being paid.
He got you fairly close to the prem, don't think I'll have many regrets seeing as the previous bod was Phil Parkinson. It's all in the future, but, the club is in a major phase of rebuild since our takeover, Johnson ( at present) suits the owners vision into the future. He hasn't even had a full window, not loads of time to implement his stamp either, what with the congestion of fixtures and the covid outbreak at the club. As ever, time will tell.
Indeed time will tell for us both, we were left for whatever reason with a poor quality squad and LJ inherited one, neither boss for different reasons had a January window. I suppose that LJ has the hardest task, IMHO we know our place, most former prem clubs don't, if he is allowed to stay and crowds are allowed in, he won't survive long if your crowds don't think that promotion is any closer than it has been, as we know to our eternal cost league 1 is a cesspit and one not easy to escape from.
I’ve no idea if he’ll be any good for you guys, I doubt it though, I’d be surprised if he’s still with you this time next year as soon as he goes on one of his losing streaks you’ll get rid.
You are the one making it up, introducing the backroom staff as an excuse, a backroom staff it took a player to expose, not saint Lee.
