Got to say a big well done to the groundsmen actually - considering how bad the pitch was back in early spring, to have forgotten we needed a new pitch meant they did loads of good work on it in the mean time.
There already isCan we bury half or last years team under it?

Would love the scabby looking door frames etc. tarting up a bit and the cladding and metal work cleaned/painted. The Stadium just needs a general refresh to brighten it up a bit, same for the inside of the roof the NE weather and sea breeze (howling gales) have not been kind and as the stadium is approaching its 25th Anniversary it would be great to see it brought back to its former glory. Obviously including some new upgrades to make the match day experience better.
I agree, but it doesn't need to be done all at once. Perhaps over say a 3 year timescale to bring it back and a regular maintenance plan thereafter.
It was mentioned that they would be looking at the corporate areas to bring them back up to standard, hopefully leading to an increase in income.
As they replace the pitch, what does that mean to people's ashes that have been scattered? Are ashes scattered in a particular place which is left alone? Are they lost / removed with the pitch? Something else?

Maybe that's why Grant had a final 'moment' on Saturday knowing the pitch was getting sorted?
I have no direct knowledge of it, but I'd imagine its more likely that people's ashes are interred beneath the pitch as relaying the turf in modern grounds isn't an unusual thing to do.
It's all symbolic mate, if you have belief and love that's all you need.
Once you die the 'spirit' leaves you and it's just an empty shell that's left. The remains you're given, after the cremation are just a reminder, nor even bound to be the actual ashes of your loved one.
Scattering the ashes, in a special place, just creates a focal point in your mind.

That sounds like the same area where my dad's ashes are,he and I both worked at Wearmouth Colliery.
Our pitch should be great already with the amount of manure it's seen.....
Would have thought the club would give no guarantees for any of this and it would be made clear to anyone asking to scatter ashes on the pitch. I have always looked at ash scattering as symbolism myself as you are releasing a part of a them to the winds and rain in a a place they loved. If people wanted a lasting and permanent place to think of their loved ones burying them intact in a box or cremated and in an urn would probably be best.
When I laid my dad's ashes the club had dug a small hole on the outside of the pitch at the North end near the goal,so not physically on the playing surface but just on the perimeter. We poured his ashes in and afterwards they fill in the hole. No ashes were scattered onto the pitch
Paving outside south side was like Sahara the amount of sand left there as i joged past earlier. They obviously had big job on. Great that pitch will have maximum time to bed in. Although I do hope concerts can and will return in 22. With some painting done it's a great start. Lot can be done to brighten place up and hope it will be done over coming months. Interesting to see improvements next season. Hoping we see most on the pitch mind
