OK, to explain: When Saints were taken over by Markus Liebherr, some Saints fans would point to Liebherr cranes and trucks and erroneously say, the bloke who owns that company, owns us too. That wasn't true. Markus no longer had any shares in what was the family business. His claim to fame was in market leading common rail diesel injection systems, for example. The MALI Group was his company, as in MArkus LIebherr. When Markus died, ownership of his company passed to his daughter and the rest of the family, and the ownership of Saints passed to the estate of Markus Liebherr, which is controlled by the family. Hence, we are now owned by the Liebherr family, and I believe, Saints fans can now rightly say, the bloke who owns that [crane, truck, etc...] company, owns us too.
Considering most of the money in the Prem is derived from TV deals I doubt it economically viable to extend the stadium. Esp in the short term to medium term.
but were still not owned by the Liebherr group we are owned by Mali which is controlled by his daugher and not his brothers
So a simple question of asking if we would get a stadium expansion or not has turned into a great debate over who actually owns us so I'll put my penny's worth in! Frankly, I couldn't give a ****e who owns us, Mr Cortese (the Don) is in charge and despite alot of fans not liking him or anything after Pardew got sacked we can say we've got 1 of the best chairmen in this country!
You should give ****e who owns us?? They pull the plug and Cortese goes as well, he's their employee. Luckily we seem to have acquired good custodians of our football club but to be honest the amount of clubs owned by overseas owners is quite scary. These phantom owners have the power to destroy football clubs which have been part of our communities for the best part of a century.
That may happen when a team is losing money and are sitting on desirable land. Such owners will invest the minimum as they have no interest in the club itself. Southampton are a valuable commodity and Markus has invested money in us. I don't pretend to know what the Leihberrs intend: the plan might be to get us to the Premier League then sell, but the important part of that sentence are the words 'Premier League'. I'd like the family to stay with us because, as you say, there are plenty of bad owners out there, but saving us and getting us promoted twice would be a hell of a legacy for Markus.
no he wont. he said in a recent interview that he has other people ready to buy us if the liebherr's pull out.
Hope your right...have you got a link to this interview. Seems a strange thing to say when he is representing our current owners.
Premier League...Foreign owners...our fishy freinds know all about them. Not being confrontational here but the amount amount of foreign owners of football clubs is common thing now and something I find quite scary. Good or bad intentions I think these owners identities and motives be should vetted more closely. Anyway MLS probably diversing onto a more general football topic than SFC, like I said we seem to have acquired great custodians when Marcus bought us.
I remember him saying it too. I think we forget that it was him who suggested Saints to Markus, so I suppose if the Leihberrs wanted out he would attempt to put another group together to buy them out.
Jen's right, indeed he did. Recent Beeb interview IIRC. It's around somewhere. Google for a link and you may find it. There's nothing like hearing/seeing it uttered for yourself. He also said the Liebherrs have absolutely no plans to sell in the future, anyway.
It was said after there was a lot of chatter that we had no money and the Liebherrs were not backing us after Marcus died, there were rumours put around by some people to belittle the club( and it don't take much to figure out who they were cronies of!) So the Don made a statement to dispel any thing of that sort and to state that Southampton would be in good hands even if in the future if the club was sold The point being that the guy loves the club and in Marcus's name will work damn hard to insure Southampton FC are heading in the right direction and are well looked after
The main reason I don't give a s**** is because there's nothing I can do about it. If I don't agree with who owns us what do I do? Still support my club on a Saturday and some Tuesdays or Wednesdays! No-one liked Lowe being there and it took 'til admin for him to f*** off, before that he wasn't interested in leaving despite what the many thousands of us done so my question is now this.... Who actually cares who owns us or who couldn't care less AS LONG as they have this great club to support?
