So you would rather sell Phillips but use the money elsewhere? Or keep Phillips and not have money to spend?
To be honest, I wouldn't for £18m. But the rumours are that we want to bring it down even further. However, I would happily sell Phillips to get Kabak in.
Yep, I just mentioned the same thing to Solid. I wouldn't; at £18m but you cant look at transfers like - it's about improving the squad wherever possible at the best price. Improving our defence for £8m and potentially having a top class defender who will be playing for many years is a bargain IMO.
That's some seriously ****ed up financing you've got going off there mate. Phillips is effectively worth £10m. That's a £10m asset that you're about to just write off so that you can justify buying another that's seriously overly priced
but you are assumong , and personally think it is optimistic , that we get £10m for Phillips so it is £18m whichever way you cut it plus an increase to our wage bill and 1 less home grown qualified player .
£10m for a player who has no future at this club and whose value will only go down from next season onwards - for a player who is a talented youngster with a lot of potential who can be a mainstay for many years? We have scouted Kabak for a while now and is regarded a big talent.
With all of the media creaming themselves over Phillips recently, I'd be surprised if we don't get at least £10m for him!
You're completely missing the punt because you're linking the two players. They're not linked. We sell Phillips for as much as we can and it goes it the kitty. We then look at buying the best dealing available, that is not Kabak at £18m
if that was true A ) why haven't we seen it . B) we would have already triggered the option to buy . I just don't see how Kabak fits in well enough for how Klopp sets us up to justify £18m .
We could have done with Lovren this season. I think this is the difference between us - as I mentioned before I think you go on what you would do whereas I'm going on what I think Klopp and the club will do. I freely admit to not having a piggin' clue how to run a football squad. I rarely suggest how or who I think we should play - all I do is observe what happens and draw conclusions from it. We've seen that Klopp goes for players he feels he can trust, even to the point of playing them out of position rather than rely on an unknown quantity. Incomers generally have a period in purgatory until he's sure they're ready to give him what he wants. With that in mind, I think he'd be reluctant to jettison known quantities and take a risk on players who, despite their record elsewhere, might just bomb in this league. That's before we even begin to consider finances. If I do have an opinion, it's that I'd rather be relying on Phillips as back-up than Williams - who is just not ready for this level yet.
Not on Kabak as he's not worth £18m Reality is, we work in a limited budget so we're won't spend much on a fourth choice CB regardless. More likely to be a free transfer or youth promotion (can't think of anyone though). Any raised funds will go towards Konate (or a alternative) and recruitment in other positions (probably need to raise more funds too)
My guess is similar in that it would be used towards a first choice CB and probably keep Matip . All this depends though as i think a decent offer for quite a few of our squad would be accepted .
I think we will keep one of Matip or Phillips as fourth choice, more likely the latter as I don't think the former was happy with being third pick never mind dropping to fourth.
