you are missing the point totally. who do you think wants him to get up and the back of forwards? this is modern defending. not running away form players but smashing them before they get turned. Its not an easy job. you want forwards passing back not turning on you. I could just as easily ask where is the no 6 there and why is nate completely exposed? the fact is he is showing he's listening to the coaches. I suggest you pull out clip of people whining about matip being out of position and charging up too, exaclty the same stuff, follow the forward and engage is the tactic. they cannot turn. If someone else is AWOL then you are beaten in a 1 on 1. What we dont want is guys falling back and letting forwards turn just to mind themselves and not look stupid.
some ****er has cut out most of his headers. the lad is hardly ever beaten in the air. His jumping is astonishing.
not his fault mate. He wasn't up to it physically or mentally, seems a nice honest lad that everyone likes. Only people stealing a living like clyne for example should be even whats what.
Just an absolute wast of time money and effort. Thought he was on some special treatment thing to end his never ending injuries. That was months ago I heard about that. Months ago
And he clearly can't do it because he's not good enough lol. Simple as that. Bless him for trying and giving his all. But fact of the matter is, he is not good enough to play in a Klopp defence long term.
Nobody is saying he is good enough to be playing every week, they're saying he's good enough to be our FOURTH choice and a squad option.
thats not the dispute though If you said that nobody would mind. I've said it too, we all have said so. You've said he's trash and thats just patently OTT.
After Palace, we should never see him starting for us again. We should have enough options before we ever have to use him.If he does, then we have failed in our recruitment.
We're never going to have two top quality teams in our squad, we're always going to have players that are purely for backup or numbers. We're not going to spend money on recruiting a quality fourth choice CB, it's just not going to happen.
This is why I say we should be selling him and bringing in someone who has potential to become a start (i.e. Kabak). VVD Gomez Matip Konate Kabak
We'll just plant a few money trees too We're not going to sell Phillips and buy someone better with what we get, nor will they be on equal or less wages. Therefore, in your scenario, we're spending money to improve the FOURTH choice CB. Not going to happen.
If we do our business well, we could effectively swap Phillips with Kabak. We'd be getting a better centre back, better suited to us, younger and has more potential. And is someone who can be rotated in and willing to wait and sit on the bench And assuming Matip is sold, then even more reason to have a better choice to provide back up to Konate, Gomez and VVD.
We'll see. I think he's played into Klopp's thinking, will be in the squad next season and is the reason we won't pursue Kabak.
For me it's about good, honest players who give 100% and have great attitude. Phillips is all of that. He's stepped in and stepped up. He knows his abilities and/or lack of and has used them as best as he is able. I think it will come down to whether or not he wants to stay and stick around for another season to see how things go. The lad isn't daft, he knows that he only plays in circumstances like we're going through now.
On Kabak i couldn't see us buying him as he isn't quick and not all that in the air . We need the CB to have both to be first choice and even as 4th they need one as defending set pieces relies largely on them plus Fab .
I haven't watched many games so I can't offer an opinion on Kabak other than based on seeing game highlights. I have read that it's either him or Konaté. Kabak already injured may be us buying more of the same. What would you say are his positives and negatives.
My view on him is that he is a decent player who is pretty good on the ball but has no outstanding attributes . Personally think we will sign one first choice ( Konate ? ) and keep Matip .
VVD Gomez Matip Konate It's looking likely that they'll be our four CBs next season. There's a spot there for Phillips as a 5th choice/FA cup defender on cheap wages (relatively) and would be happy with that squad position. He's very limited but tbh, alongside any of VVD, Matip or Gomez to guide him along and mop up the loose balls around him, he'd be perfectly fine as a gap filler. There's still Koumetio, Davies and Williams on the roster too. There's no chance we're buying 2 more CBs this summer unless we sell Matip or Gomez. One is more than enough.
3 crocks and a hip injury issue. That's our 4 cbs? I think Phillips will be playing next year so We need to calm down about konate until it actually happens. It could be all agent talk.
