Christ no wonder we’ve been skint over the past years with spending like that, even most of the players wasn’t that good, that was madness
Unfair on a few players... Nielsen, Remy, Cisse...and Zamora and Hoillet who gave us a wonderful moment But some of them Boswinga, Samba, Park Luke Young, SWP, ..and perma injured Andy Johnson...were staggering and not in a good way
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that. SWP on £60k a week for sitting on the bench for 2 years.
Yep, crazy stuff. We seem to have signed anybody that had a pulse. Our team should have been called, Quack Player Retirements. I don't think Jenas actually played at all for us. There were a few attempts though. He was totally busted, so was Park ( shot knees ) .......... Rio was over the hill ( and had a sick wife to contend with.) Bos just didn't give a toss and many others did their best to make him feel like he wasn't alone. Remy scored some good goals for us before becoming the perennial bench warmer for The Scum. But ............. the biggest knob of all was the manager, No Knees Redknapp, who bleed us dry and then dialed 911 the day after the window shut. His surgery was a success though, cause he was seen playing golf within the month, bless him( .......with boiling water ) Mark Hughes didn't meet anybody's ambitions, including ours and was about as inviting as a fart in an elevator. The only consistency we had was the lack of it in any form, way or shape. Ahhh.............. though were the days and the people wonder why we fans have swollen livers, poor eyesight, Irritable bowel syndrome and frequent Anger Management courses.
Agree, it was obscene.Beth was correct that some were good committed players but there were many wasters. Sadly this is not a good model on how to run a club. When Leicester beat scum in the final it made me think. They went up with us and Burnley. Look at the difference? Neither spent like we did in the early days and both stayed up and we went down. I admire both Leicester and Burnley for what they have achieved.
When playing, l thought SWP covered more ground than the mowing contractors without ever understanding the reason goal posts were installed. However, if my memory serves me correct, he did score one quality goal during his time with us. He moved to the US and played with his brother. His brother was a prolific scorer over there but Shaun was dropped to the reserves team before retiring.
We had those two Chileans as well, good players, brought in for the specific formation that Dedcrapp wanted to play because Rio asked him to and then abandoned after one match. And still this piece of human garbage is all over our TV screens, his greed is bottomless.
I believe he only scored once for us...but what a goal, long range versus Chelscum that gave us a win at theirs. I entirely agree with your summary of SWP, he did run around an awful lot ( so not lacking effort) but did not really know what to do with a ball, and obviously his dad had not told him about the goals. I think his name got him contracts..
Just heard him on the radio doing an ad for Bet Victor, part of which was the obligatory 'gamble safely' spiel. He actually advises people to 'never spend more than you can afford'. What a ****.
On the offy now. Oteh and Smythe released along with a number of u23s such as Tyla Dickinson, Brownoski( the goalie) and Dalling ( surprised as I heard he was good) too. New contracts for Owens and Carroll. Extensions for Barnes (no2 goalie then?) Ben Wells and believe it or not Ramskilde.
Shame about Smyth. At 23 and not particularly excelling in L1 it’s probably the best thing for him. We’ll always have his goal against Cardiff, like a chihuahua running through bears. Oteh has failed to live up to my highly unrealistic expectations based on him being useful on FIFA for me.
Sad to see Smyth go he looked promising. I suppose the Board know best, they seem to be making good decisions of late.
Interesting, glad Carroll has been offered a new deal. Ramkilde will be like a new signing if he's ever fit enough, they obviously see something in him.
