Sorry but I think this is wishful thinking. Burnley know what works against us not least from their own experience. I'm expecting a similarly difficult game, hopefully with similar heroics.
Itd be nice to score a couple early and let the game be a case of come on the burnely let's see if you can stop salah on the break
Was I not right re WBA game? We had enough chances to win 2 games. TAA played well and himself could have scored two. Never mind Mane who fluffed a chance in the first half which normally he would have scored with his eyes closed.
No You were not right Unless you show me a betting slip saying Allison would plant a 95th minute header in the net We were seconds from oblivion with more of the same to follow Not pessimistic just realistic of the season we are having Hope we win the next two like but odds are we won’t Nobody is scoring with their eyes closed in our team this year you are muddling us up with that team that won the prem last year But I genuinely do love how positive you are - balances a few like me out lol
I'll say again, we'll either be frantically trying to get a winner in the last seconds or desperately defending a one-goal lead in injury time. No gimmees at the moment.
I'd almost take that right now. Anything rather than having lost the game. Look we have rode our luck, theres no point denying it, but we have fought, for the first real time this season we have fought hard. Itd be nice not to concede a goal to have to fight back this time.
We've actually started to win games after going behind again, which is nice and a big difference to earlier in the season. As you say, IT'd be good not to go behind this time, but ultimately the main thing is just getting the win.
Over the past 7-8 games, we managed to rediscover our attacking threat. Prior to that, we weren't even creating enough chances to win games. Low chance creation + poor finishing is a recipe for disaster. But now, we are creating 3-4 big chances a game and pressing more - yes, the finishing is still poor but we have a better chance of scoring goals due to the increase in chances we're now creating. This has come at the expense of defensive stability as we cant rely on Rhys and Nat to hold onto small leads - we have to go for the throats and score 2-4 goals a game to get the win.
Apart from the defence, which is understandable, we've been a lot more like our old selves recently. We're controlling games for the most part and creating chances, but the finishing is still abysmal. Still, that should return, and I now have more confidence that as long as we can keep crowds in we'll be back to serious challengers next season. With a bit of tweaking of course. Thankfully, I don't think there's the slightest chance of an attempt at a complete rebuild. The finances won't allow it, and that's not Klopp's Way.
mate we were making chances. lets not sugar coat it we were amking chances with the exception of one or two games against good teams like cheslea and city. The finishing is SHOCKING. the different is Nat phillips , more fight in the belly and fabinho in midfield. Phillips a a ****ing hero. He's like a lad plucked from Sunday league playing the FA cup final here and he is giving everything. Williams is a gangly kid who's not even half the finished article to be calling ****. the fact neither's knees have buckled is a miracle IMO. It takes real balls to stand up and take it all and play. Lets just go though the rubbish v west brom. Wijnaldum blazed one over. trent blazed two over the bar firmino shot wide in side the box. not even close to being on target Firmino blazes it and hits woodwork when he could have passed it home. Salah poor effort staves by johnston mane fires wide from the middle of the box facing goal. We had something like 25 shots with 5 on target, one goal and 4 easy fall on the ball saves before alisson saved us. we can go through game after game and its the same. Shots close in blazed over. Just hammering the foot wildly through the ball and not aiming so most go over the bar or well wide. We can talk go for the throat all we want but the chances are there and they are simply not converted as we rush them. Look at utd. Jota is in and can win the game at 4-1 and blazes it. rattles the post. I can almost bet you kane and son would finish those 8 or 9 times out of 10.
Any of our front three would have buried them in recent years as well. Mo's conversion rate is still decent, though.
We weren't creating enough chances. Yes, we had 1 or maybe 2 big chances but that's not enough for our team. During our worst form of the season, our xG against was higher than xG for. We lacked creativity from all over. But now we are generating our usual numbers which are in line with prior years - more shots, more chances, more big chances. The only thing that we're not doing is putting the ball in the back of the net as much. But at least the process is there.
Mo and Jota have a better conversion rate than Harry Kane this season (G/sh). With the exception of this season, Mane's conversion rate was also right up there. There is this narrative that we need players like Kane or Haaland because they're so clinical and finish every big chance. The reality is they don't. The reason they get so many goals is the same reason why our attackers (not natural strikers) get goals - combination of top class movement, good finishing and have a high shot volume in key areas.
yes its decent, but then again v southampton he is in 1 on 1 twice and misses. those must go in. Mo's scoring is freaking awesome once he gets the run on someone. . We want to win it back and go score type stuff when a team is running out and then he is alive. with deep set teams he is struggling badly to even get a sniff and is trying the same old cut in and shot stuff that's blocked all the time. He doesn't get in and score headers or tap ins. Mane is better at that but isn't bothered to do the job.
