No chance of getting Niasse back, he might be on a free but he'll be able to go to Turkey and get £15-20k a week comfortably. Can't see us being able to offer Sonny enough either if Luton can't. Plus he's a left-footed centre half and we've got Greaves so it wouldn't make sense either.

Really want to see us get Slater back, difficult to find a player with his attributes in the deeper midfielder role. Not fussed about Whyte though, he's levels below KLP & Wilks, and they're only getting better. He also failed to score but got 1 assist for Cardiff in 32 games for them (roughly 1400 minutes) Screams of someone who's not good enough for the level. Plus, they signed him for £2m and will want to recoup a big chunk of that. I liked him in L1, and I'd wouldn't mind if the fee was £300/400k but can't see Cardiff doing that.

Striker wise, Dion Charles is the one. He fits our system perfectly but still has plenty to work on and improvement in him. He'll be about £1m but he's got 12 months left, and there's no chance he'll renew so Accrington will want to flog him as it's huge money to them.

Players like Niasse will go where they are wanted, it'll depend on where the offers come from.

I'd take Slater, but I think you're underplaying Whyte a little. He's a winger, he was inconsistent and he had to go out on loan to rediscover his form. Like you say, he won't get in ahead of KLP/Wilks from the off, but like Mayer he'd be decent cover on a free transfer. Cardiff don't want to keep him and it would free up some wages, I don't think they'd be inflexible with the fee. He's clearly too good for League One and players like that make decent cover at Championship level.

I agree about Charles, but the more I look at his situation, he's got the pick of a lot of Championship clubs who can offer him more money. Can we be fair to Josh Magennis AND guarantee Charles a starting berth to sway his decision? Probably not and the fee would be at least £1m. I think Pigott at Wimbledon would be another option, or Paul Mullin at Cambridge United who's had an unbelievable season (32 league goals, 34 in all comps). The latter has played at a division lower, but he'd be much cheaper and as far as I know he's out of contract.

Paul Mullin is the new Tom Eaves, a Scouser who has had one hot season after years of relative mediocrity. A useful signing for those who like to grumble, I suppose.

If Whyte can be taken on a free, it's a no brainer. I'd take him all day long, I just expect Cardiff to want £700k+.

I'm not sure Charles has got the pick of Championship clubs personally. I'm sure he's been watched by many but he has holes in his game that I think would put other clubs off. Throw into the mix that Wyke and Pigott are both on frees and I think that they will both have no shortage of offers, I think we can nick Charles whilst the rest of the championship is firing contract offers at those two. Charles was also liking a lot of the city players promotion stuff on Instagram too I read. He'll have met Magennis and Whyte when he made his NI debut recently mind.

Personally wouldn't take Mullin, it looks like he's just had a good season.

If you think this club, or any promoted club, is going to loan out 8 players and get in another 8-10 players, most of which will be permanent signings, then... well, it’s unlikely, let’s say that.

It's really not unrealistic at all. Of the six I'd loan out, 4 struggled to make the bench. As I said above, you could get rid of Eaves permanently but we wouldn't get a fee. So we might as well loan him like we did with Jordy.

This season we brought in 12 players (counted Haks & Whyte as one), 9 came in once the £2.5m cap was enforced, we didn't spend a fortune and you don't need to but we brought in some real quality. We need to improve depth, it's our biggest weakness and we need to have another strong summer. There's no reason why we can't bring in 8 players without breaking the bank. I don't understand why Alfie & Doc weren't taken by championship clubs last summer, wages wise, they're on peanuts

You’re a ****ing idiot
Two posters have tried to explain it but you don’t get it
So I’ll state it clearly
We aren’t Chelsea who loan out loads of players you fuxking idiot
We aren’t going to pay a load of players to go out on loan and then buy a load more players
And pay their wages too
Do you get that now ?

Whilst McCann has intimated that there is money to spend, he also talked about players moving on. I doubt the club will have a huge war chest to spend and some suggestions about signings on here seem a bit optimistic to me.

Unless a very substantial offer comes in, the only players that will move on are ones Grant wants to move on

I think Scott will be moved on this window, he wasn't making it into the bench during the run-in, he did make it onto the bench for the last game though. George Long could be departing as well, McCann prefers Ingram to him and think he will move on. I can Emmanuel leaving as well, he will be disappointed to have spent the 2nd half of the season on the bench due to Coyle coming into superb form.

Did I say we'd pay their wages? No, have we paid Jordy's for the last 4/5 months? No. They're on **** all, we won't have an issue finding a club to pay the wages in full, Eaves will be on the most. Flores came from Dundalk, their fans reckon their weekly wage bill is £11k a week, he won't have even been on £1k pw there. Mayer came from the 2nd tier in Austria, considering there's no money in the top division, he'll be on peanuts too.

And for the record, to get a Chelsea youngster on loan, you have to cover all their wages in pretty much every case.

If you're going to call me a ****ing idiot, at least use punctuation to make your point coherently.

It's funny, because everyone said Slater was complete ****e, I said he wasn't everyone said I was an idiot, oh look. He came in and played really well when we needed him most.

Why wouldn't L1 clubs take them? Take Flores, he's got 1 year left but we've got an option. We could let him go for free, or we could loan him out for the season with his wages covered and if he has a really decent season we can sell him or use him if we see fit. It costs us absolutely nothing and he was wanted by plenty of L1 clubs in January so he'll have suitors.

You're making out like they're all on stupid money and nobody will want them.

When Crowley came in, I did. Doc took time to find his feet, and we didn't see the best of him until 2021. He's taken it to a new level this calendar year, he had a good December too, but let's not pretend that Doc has been majestic from the opening day of the season and I did expect more from Crowley at this level. Crowley's been a big disappointment considering his ability

Well each to their own.

All I was suggesting was using the Jordy De Wijs loan approach/strategy and replicating it. It worked great for Jordy, turning a player we wouldn't have got a fee for into one which we did and there's no reason it couldn't work well again. It's hardly a ridiculous approach.

And for the record, Chelsea's loan strategy makes them very good money. They get wages covered, a loan fee and when they want to sell a decent fee too. It's why they've replicated it for so many years, it's hardly rocket science. Now they've started producing players good enough for their first team too.
