I must admit I have a bit of a dilemma I really want to get out of league 1 and into the championship but the thought of going into the premiership does not make me feel happy at all but then we have a new owner and my heart tells me he won’t want to go up and fight relegation every f ucking year he’ll want to make a go of it, I honestly wish them 6 had pissed off so everybody is on a fairly even keel.

I know what you mean mate. Within an hour of being outraged that the 6 would dare leave our league I had accepted that the premiership would initially be more of a level playing field, giving us more chances in the future. The Championship is as hard as they come nevermind the top league.

I came onto the world full of joy at being alive, only to immediately be smacked on the arse when I hadn’t done anything wrong. As a result I dedicated my life to pessimism. As reality is the cause of my pessimism I reckon that makes me a realist. But am I a realistic pessimist or a pessimistic realist? Life can be complicated! :emoticon-0114-dull:<cheers>

Just a curmudgeon perhaps?

That is my ultimate dream. Oh to be a curmudgeon! Utter bliss...
Er.. just googled it. Nar. You’ve got the wrong idea mate. I never lose my temper with people, I accept other’s opinions with equanimity and try to be pleasant in my gloom. If people want to be unreasonably and annoyingly optimistic I accept it as their right, even though I know they are wrong. Have a nice evening, friend.

... what's the difference between the three?

I've seen many posters, on these forums, claiming to be realists rather than pessimists ... hmmm.

People who claimed there would be no takeover said they were realists. People who then had to admit there actually was a takeover claimed Donald would still be pulling the strings but that was realism, not pessimism. Even then, they were claiming KLD was a 'little boy lost' and wouldn't be able to spend any money. When he started appointing top people, improving the infrastructure, new pitch, etc, etc, etc, they suddenly went quiet.

These pessimists have moved on to claiming 'the reality' is that we wouldn't even make the play offs or have any chance of promotion. Now that we have, the 'reality' is that we'll lose in the play offs <doh>

That all seems to suggest that the 'reality' of these people is an ever changing entity that suits their endless pessimism ...

... I'd put good money on them being the first to say, "Yes we were luckily promoted, but we'll come straight back down."

If their 'reality' proves to be flawed they'll claim it was a 'first season blip' and we'll go down the season after ...

... nothing can be allowed to distort their pessimistic grasp of reality.
Good to see you back @Smug in Boots . Hope ya keeping well.

Welcome back.

I've always thought theres 2 types of pessimists. The ones that can't/won't admit they're pessimists and claim to be realists - they're just, well, nobheads, and those that admit it, fair enough, some people are (or have been made that way by supporting us)

Optimism seems a much better way, especially supporting us, you may as well believe the new owner is going to be good, a new manager is a potential genius, or that new signing is an unearthed gem, because usually things turn out crap, so feel good before it happens in case that's all you get.

Anyway, non-nobheads tend to be a mix of pessimism/realism/optimism (imo) and as far as SAFC is concerned I'm probs 10/20/70

Think I'm in your group Sandy, had a lifetime of thinking this is the year and then well Maybe next year.
Never thought seriously about walking away and like others I think this period in our clubs history has a different feel to it, despite what league were in next season.
This bits for another thread entirely but is KLD going to give us,a team with many youngsters as a lot seem to wish for or seasoned experienced Championship players et al mercenary types which we've had before so it'll be a very interesting summer.
Back to Smug, welcome back son it's good to see you back in the groove.

I'm an optimist but have been given so many kicks in the balls by SAFC over the years that failure doesn't surprise.

I don’t expect failure, but have seen us pluck it out of the jaws of success with so many last gasp attempts that I have learned.

My philosophy is - Hope, but remember success it isn't a given. Cheer the lads on, enjoy each and every bit of success whilst it lasts, but remember our history.

Adjust expectations with respect to our performances, but don't rule out success. Hope and hope that we don't **** it up!

I believe I’m a realist.

I'm a pessimist and blame Harry Kane for our recent demise. If only he hadn't taken the corners he might have scored and kept Hodgson in a job...

Mind you, I'm over the moon with KLD and looking forward to the 5 year plan..
Hhaaawwwwwaaaaaayyyyyyyy the Lad's
