I was there at all those games with lowest crowds, and was there in late 60’s with the ground packed, the numbers were irrelevant. Every fan there felt pretty much the same and that continued through thick and thin until the Allams actions divided the fans.
People are fickle in this town when it comes to sport.
I attended every home game in 70/71 when 20k was a typical gate.
Four seasons later it was quite often 5,000. Booing was commonplace, slow handclaps and angry 'What a load of rubbish' chants would sometimes ring out.
Divided crowd even then, regardless of chairmen.
