It looks like politics is being turned upside down.

In wards last contested in 2017, the swing to the Conservatives is 4 points in the most working class areas, while there is a 4 point swing to Labour in the most middle class ones.

These figures illustrate the lack of progress that Labour has made in reconnecting with working class voters since the general election

Honestly, I don’t want them to connect with a working mans club voter. I want policy that will benefit all.

Labour losing seats in Scotland and Wales, too <laugh>

The Welsh Conservatives take Vale of Clwyd from Labour.

Gareth Davies, an NHS physiotherapist, is the winner.

The party took 41.4% of the vote, a majority of 366.

The SNP have gained East Lothian from Labour with a majority of 1,179.

It is the first seat to change hands.

There has been a swing of 0.8% from Labour to the SNP.

There is also a big turnout here up to 2.8%.

Titanium dioxide, or E171, is often used to whiten food products, but its use has long been a point of concern over fears that it could be carcinogenic. The French government announced a ban in 2019, but it is still used in other EU member states.

The EFSA published a study in September 2016 which concluded that evidence available at that time did not indicate that it was a cause of health problems,

Corbyn will now be used as a deflection tactic by Labour, I hope not, but Peej has already done so. I said it before the general election, I said it before these local elections, Labour need to stop talking about the opposition and tell us what THEY have to offer, but instead they rely on spin everytime, and fail everytime. I honestly thought Starmer was going to be better than this, in fact he's worse!

I don't think so tbh. Think it's more a case that the country is still very much polarised from the past 5 years and that will take time to get over. That's confirmed by the fact we're still using Brexit as a reason why a Labour MP wasn't voted for. And the fact this government has been so incompetent, so corrupt over the past 15 months in their dealings through a pandemic and yet people will defend them blindly in places like Hartlepool. The fact that the single biggest cause of Hartlepool's misfortunes, its economic and social devastation has been a decade of austerity under the Tories, and yet the people are blaming the incumbent MP and a heavily cutback council for it lol.

It's a weak argument to say, what do Labour stand for? We can ask the same what does this Tory government stand for? Fck all as far as the good folk of places like Hartlepool are concerned and no doubt will discover. It's a red herring, the only thing that matters is how polarised this country has become - and quite irrationaly at times, and how long it will take to get past that.

It does the country more harm than good to have a weak opposition imo. The blame for that falls equally on Labour. Or it could be that in this period in time no matter what mess or corruption we see with the Tories , no amount of opposition will dent them. It's hard to tell.

^^^^this.
I was having a chat with someone at work who’s always been a labour activist and even he says he’s not sure what Starmer stands for. It’s just meaningless sound bites!
