Super, Super Leeds
On the Spanish Leeds blog (with translation for non-Hispanophones): http://spanishleeds.blogspot.com/2011/10/entrevista-luciano-becchio.html

INTERVIEW IN ENGLISH:

I was at Leeds United - Portsmouth with Martin (@webeatscum1_0) a few weeks ago. After the match, I had the possibility to meet Luciano Becchio. I appreciate the treatment of him with me the day of the match and then to get the interview for the blog. Here is the interview:

- Luciano Becchio started to play in Boca Juniors. At 20, he decided to leave Argentina and he came to Spain with their parents and his brother. Mallorca give him the first opportunity to play in Spain, and he started to play in the reserve team. How was the first big change in your life as footballer?

- I came to Spain with my parents and my brother when I was 18. The change was very hard but so beautiful. It was very hard because I was far away from my big brother and from my nephew, my grandmother and my friends, that was the most difficult thing. And the pro was to go to Europe, because every south-american boy dream about to play in Europe.

- After Mallorca, you´ve been played for Murcia, Terrasa, Barcelona and Mérida. What was the club about you had your best memories in Spain?

- The best memories that I have about all this clubs is from Mérida, because I could play the play-off to promoted to Second Division and it was very nice, I saw the supporters very happy, that´s a memory that I always remembered. By the way, I was the top scorer of the league and that was wonderful. I had very good friends who I still keep in contact, for example, Antonio Moreno or Sabino.

- You arrive at Leeds on a trial recommended by Marcelino (ex Newcastle and Mallorca player) It was hard to adapt to England: timetables, language, football style, etc?

- I arrived at Leeds recommended by Marcelino (how you say) and because of my agent, Horacio Rossi. Came to Leeds was something wonderful, it was a big success for me. The most difficult thing when I arrived to Leeds was the language, I was trying to communicate with people and when I couldn´t I feel bad. By the way, I adapted to the people and the team very fast.

- It was the last season your best season since you play for Leeds?

- For me, the beast season playing for Leeds was the last, but my two first seasons were very good too.

- What´s the principal target of the team this season?

- Leeds United is a massive club and our target is to get promoted. This club must be in Premier League.

- Which are the best pro and the worst con in the start of this season?

The best pro, for me, are the SUPPORTERS, you could win or lost but they are always supporting you. And the worst con were the results that we got in the first matches of the season.

- Tell me your general opinion about the Championship. How you see the competition this season? Which teams are favorites?

- The Championship is a very hard competition, some teams are very strong and difficult to play against them, and other teams play really good football. Apart of Leeds, the favourites teams are West Ham, Leicester, Southampton and Middlesbrough.

- Which is the big difference between Championship or League One and Second Division and Second Division B in Spain (equivalent of Championship and League One in Spain)?

- The big difference is the football style. In Spain they play a football based in passes, with more quality, and in England is more physical, stronger, with a lot of quality but in a different way to play than in Spain.

- A tactical question, do you prefer play with another forward or play alone with an offensive midfield behind you?

- I used to prefer to play with another striker, but the last season I used to play as the only one forward of the team at the most of the matches and I felt good playing like that. I can´t say you what I prefer, I like to play with another forward or alone, it doesn´t matter.

To finish the interview, some short questions:

- Stadium:

- Elland Road.

- Favourite player:

- Batistuta.

- Best defense against you played in The Championship:

- Wes Morgan (Forest).

- Best goal of you career:

- There are two goals. One of them was when I played for Mérida against Águilas because it was a very important goal, and the other goal, playing for Leeds, was against Middlesbrough.

- Best striker of The Championship:

- Lambert (Southampton).

- Player of The Championship that is not playing for Leeds and you would you like to play with him in Leeds:

- Jermaine Beckford (Leicester City).

- Favorite music band:

- La barra.

- Something that you missed from Argentina.

- “El asado” (typical roast meet from Argentina).

The last thing is appreciate your time and wish you a good season.

P.D: I know that my English is not the best of the world, I hope you can understand everything, it´s difficult sometimes to translate some things from Spanish to English in the exactly way that you pretend to say.

Seems like a top guy, who wants to get promotion with Leeds. He's a modern legend in my eyes and will become an even bigger one if he stays on for 3/4 more years. Btw, did anyone watch the goal he scored for Merida (there was a link to it on the interview), was ****ing brilliant! or '****ing unbelievable' to quote Becchio's post match interview from the boro game.

I like how he says the player that he wants at leeds from the championship is jermaine beckford....

..and now he's the last remaining player from our League One promotion first team after seeing Snoddy, Johnson and Howson flogged off on the cheap.

The only one who we can truly say has the potential to be a hero who's come all the way up the divisions with us in the same way Hull had Ashbee, Swansea had Tate and Norwich have had Grant Holt.

Can he achieve that, or would certain Leeds fans still cash in as soon as £££ were mentioned so we could bring in some striker of equivalent ability just because they think keeping stuff the same is boring?

I for one hope he stays here for the rest of his career.

From the interview above: "Leeds United is a massive club and our target is to get promoted. This club must be in Premier League."

<applause>

cash in on him ! wtf ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

<laugh> I wouldn't have cashed in on Bremner because he was actually good

Becchio is easily replaceable imo. He has many faults in his game and if we could get 2m I would take that

Interesting he wants to play with Beckford again as all the talk when beckford left was that Becchio could now come out from behind his shadow. Get it done Colin

What a hero. Easily my favourite player since relegation. Just gets on with his job, the way he acts you would think he's just a squad player, not one of the first names on the team sheet. :emoticon-0115-inlov

Apparently being a 20 goal a season striker, as well as getting your fair share of assists, and running yourself into the ground every game in service of the team isn't good enough for Josh. <doh>

He has only ever scored 20 goals in 1 season once and thats only if you include cup games....

Over 4 seasons his record for goals is 19, 17, 20, 11, and considering he spent a good portion of last season injured and nigh on none of it 100% match fit 11 goals was a remarkable haul. Any other team in the league would kill for a poacher with a record like that, let alone a striker who spent his first two seasons as the 2nd striker to Jermaine Beckford. The one season in which he scored 20 was the one season where he was fit all season and was the main man in attack.

My favourite Leeds Player over the past few years, shame he put on them few extra pounds while injured last year definitely suffered cos of it.
