Following on from Most liked and Most disliked, what would be your most overrated player in: The Current Squad and Of all Time Mine would have to be Guly Do Prado i'm afraid, too inconsisent for my liking, not sure about all time though
WHAT?!!!!!!!! WOW! each to their own i suppose but i love Guly,i agree he drives ya mad one minute but the next he's immense, glad we have him.To be honest i don't think any of the players are overrated,it's a rare thing to think that way but i just can't think of any.
I think jermaine wright was overrated by burley dunno about current squad as they have been doing so well
Hard to say that there's anyone overrated in the current squad, but I suppose I'll say Barnard because most of his goals are put on a plate for him and I don't think he's particularly talented. Of all time? I can only remember as far back as the mid-90s, so I guess I'll say Crouch, more or less for the same reason as Barnard.
Is this just a thread so people can knock those players that aren't the fans favourites. Every few weeks someone seems to think Davis is useless then he makes a couple of decent saves the next week and people still want him replaced with Bialkowski, who has barely played. Guly is one of the best technical players in the Championship, he works hard and has tonnes of pace. So why knock them. If I was to say anyone was overrated it would be someone who everyone thinks is good but I cannot see the quality in, such as Barnard, who works hard but I am not too sure he is up to the Championship.
It truly amazes me how some people look at players and consider them poor. Guly is excellent in parts, ok in others, and along with Lallana is the bit of blinding flair that puts the icing on the Saints cake. He also puts in a shift, that admittedly isn't in the Dean Hammond category, but he does alright. None of the current crop of players are truly poor, because otherwise they'd be off the bus and on the first train out of here [to keep the transport metaphor going]. We won't know about Barnard until he plays a game at Championship level, but I'm betting he'll be fine, because he fits the team. I remember watching Crouch at St Marys while he was stuck in the reserves, and he was technically, head and shoulders [sorry], better than all those around him. I couldn't believe he wasn't in the team. The next week he was. The truth is, that over the years Saints have had some real journeymen, who wouldn't be in any other team, playing at so high a level. Too many to single out. Thankfully, we don't have those kind of players now. Beddytare's shout is as good as any.
How do you define overrated? By fans? By managers? Player's who've cost a lot and not delivered? None of the current team are any of those.
I'd say Butterfield is overrated by some just because some people think he should start ahead of Richardson. Nothing against Butterfield, he'd be perfectly good enough for this level, but Richardson is quality.
You obviously have no idea how to spot a player. In the current set up, it is Aaron Martin. The fact that he is a local lad sees everyone looking at him through rose tinted specs, trying to make him out to be something he's not. Can only think of Rasiak over a longer period of time.
