It truly amazes me how some people look at players and consider them poor. Guly is excellent in parts, ok in others, and along with Lallana is the bit of blinding flair that puts the icing on the Saints cake. He also puts in a shift, that admittedly isn't in the Dean Hammond category, but he does alright. None of the current crop of players are truly poor, because otherwise they'd be off the bus and on the first train out of here [to keep the transport metaphor going]. We won't know about Barnard until he plays a game at Championship level, but I'm betting he'll be fine, because he fits the team.
I remember watching Crouch at St Marys while he was stuck in the reserves, and he was technically, head and shoulders [sorry], better than all those around him. I couldn't believe he wasn't in the team. The next week he was.
The truth is, that over the years Saints have had some real journeymen, who wouldn't be in any other team, playing at so high a level. Too many to single out. Thankfully, we don't have those kind of players now.
Beddytare's shout is as good as any.
