Let me thoroughly recommend the South of France to you. Not
le cote de... but inland slightly, say around Montpelier or along west at Pezenas, and within a short car ride to the coast. [sort of, like Southampton to Calshot] Lovely dry warmth, for most of the year, totally unlike the humid conditions we often get when the Sun peeps out. Wonderful fresh food and market produce. Pretty and slightly decaying Romanesque architecture, and very, French..! And a laid back way of life that you either get or don't. Above all, that reliable Sun - currently 26°C in Pezenas, at 4pm. So they're finally starting to come to the end of summer.
