What’s horrible about it. It looks lovely, drives well has more gizmos than any other motor. Plus it’s the future.

Yeah it’s 2030 and you’re bang on, they need to put their money where their mouth is, the Danes got it right a couple of years back, and now EV’s dominate their market.

I’ve been waiting for the new generation, as the previous full EV’s were ****e in terms of range and hybrids are an absolute pisstake unless your average journey is about 10 miles max each way. The ID 4 can do over 300 miles which makes it viable for me.

That ID 4 looks nice too. And yeah, the range on some of those first gen electric cars is useless unless it's a city car. I drove a Zoe years ago as my NHS trust bought a few of them. Crap car to drive, but it did the job around town. But if you're doing any serious mileage, then no ****er wants to stop every 50 miles to recharge.

The tech is getting better all the time and batteries are getting smaller and more efficient. The Govt just need to back it to make this happen properly instead of paying lip service to it.

EV’s will continue to evolve, the batteries will get smaller and lighter, with more range and higher power. I’m sure the current offerings will be out of date within 4/5 years, which is why I’ll either lease or take a PCP and hand it back.

They say that leasing will be a lot more affordable than buying in the future

Compared to buying new for cash, It already is if you change your car every 3 or 4 years.

I always lease a car for the Mrs and I have been taking mine on a *cough* tax efficient scheme in which I’m technically the owner but it’s in essence a company vehicle, and I change it every 12 months. But I’m close to calling it a day, and fancy an EV for a host of reasons.

    Not really.

Would probably rather stick a hot poker up my arse than drive that.

    Probably.

EV revolution is a load of ****, you have to do about 80,000 miles before you start to offset the CO2 costs of making the battery, which is about 20 tonnes per battery. Ad that's before you've charged it once.

As to Tesla, Musk is just a grandstanding **** imo, full of ****.

It's a nice car. It was VW's flagship SUV so it was a luxury car when it launched. Based on the same platform as a Porsche Cayenne. Loaded with options and a proper off roader too with low range and diff lock.

Over engineered in some respects. It's got a setting where you can alter the front and rear footwell lighting independently and choose how bright or dim you want it. Somebody at VW was given an 'add everything you can think of' brief with that one <laugh>

I don’t think it was ever realistic IMO as we don’t have an adequate charging infrastructure. I would be interested to know how many properties in the UK have drives or garages to enable off street charging overnight?.

Not getting a Tesla till they make one that can fly.

I’d rather the government subsidise public transport than Elon Musk’s phony business model anyway.

Meanwhile, London’s Ultra Low Emmission Zone means my 20 year old 3 series becomes unaffordable in October. I’ve seen the future, and it’s ****. Good job I’m an old man.

There’s no ****ing about from Tesla when it comes to pure power. That Plaid S is absolutely savage, don’t care how much money VW throw at it, they won’t make a faster car than that 0-60.
