I said at the time we should have kept him as he had outstanding potential, but some of our fans constantly got on his back and pushed him out the door. Shame really, could have been a club legend and better than anything we’ve got in centre midfield currently. I just hope he doesn’t make us pay in a few weeks time.

Nah. Was terrible in the championship and wouldn't even get into our starting 11 now.

Watched him since he was 15 years old.

Should of kept Maja.
Can't keep all the players.
Lee Johnson didn't get rid of him.
A lot were calling for Wykes head a while back.
It's all swings and roundabouts mate .
If we go up that's all that matters right now.

It works for some players moving on to another club, look at how well Lingards doing now for West ham. It doesnt mean to say he'd have played like that for us though if he had stayed.
You cant blame anyone for getting rid of him, he had plenty of opportunities to impress for us, but unfortunately he was very hit and miss.

He always looked too lightweight for this division to me, obviously i was wrong, but I don't regret letting him go.

The OP is winding mate,as always.
However, although I know you've been around the club, so I respect your knowledge,I think you're being a bit harsh.
He did come into a side at its' very lowest ebb,and a fractured dressing room. Can't have been easy for a young lad.

Yeah I understand that. With George he was always neat and tidy, good engine and could do an ok job. However, it wasn't mostly essential that he was in a midfield 3. Wasn't good enough for a 2. Then he was placed into a ten role and he didn't have the intelligence to play there either.

He may have come on a bit with the last 2 years. That said, he wouldn't get into our team now IMO. Depending on the system like.

He is a good league 1 player, he has been found out in the championship with us and last season with Hull however I love to see the local lads do well and hope he has a long successful career. I love seeing the likes of Henderson & Pickford thriving at the top of the premier league, sounds daft but even though I dont know them personally I am proud of what they have achieved.
Saying Honeyman could have been a club legend is over the top, legends arent made in 3rd tier footy in my opinion. Our last brief stint in this league produced players I was fond of such as Marco ( who is now a twat ) Gatesy, Bennet, McPhail, Armstrong & Owers but I would never class them as legends. Maybe Bennet as he did well over a long period of time and still loves us. Some of them had legendary moments like The G Force against the mags and Armstrongs header but legend status for me is thrown about too easily.
Mind we are coming into a period in our proud history where Legends could be born.

Why do you think Gabbiadini is a twat?

I always those gave his all which is all I ask. However, to suggest that some neck end poll from fans making him officially the best player is utterly ridiculous.

O9! :emoticon-0105-wink:

I like the lad, gives his all and has bought into what our club is all about. I see some people on here suggesting he needs moving before it goes wrong, I look at it another way, he is by far our best performing centre half of the season I would leave him there and see how much better he could become. We may have stumbled on his best position, the lad could be a cracking centre half for years to come.

Fair enough mate, i just wondered.
I used to love him as a kid, he was my favourite player.
I saw him after a Middlesbrough vs Derby County game once and he came across as a right miserable twat.
I agree he was a great player, I watched almost every game he played for us but as soon as he comes on the radio I have to switch off.

Honeyman was a tidy player, with great attitude, who had some smashing games for us.

He also disappeared far, far too often when needed, and especially as captain, culminating in bottling taking a penalty on the cup final.

I would have been happy to keep him, but I’m not gonna pretend I was remotely concerned when he left, and I’m not now either.

He’d get games here right now, sure. We’d not be suddenly 14 points clear or owt, none issue.

Happy as a Sunderland lad he’s doing well for them. He’s still in League One, a league we categorically don’t want to be in, and landed in through chronic mismanagement.

Ask me if I feel differently when he’s top half Championship or PL player, not 5 points ahead of us in a **** league with us having 6 points in hand.

Some awful takes from both sides in this thread. One convinced me the author doesn't actually watch football. The truth lies somwhere in the middle. All I'll say is our ppg would have been better last year if he'd stayed.

Can't really say that though can you, I mean you can but have no proof of that so you can't. Does that sound logical lol
