As entertaining as he was, he was never a sustainable option. 3 wins from 13 games, one of which was a cup game against a team from the lower leagues. A very lucky win at that

Sadly agreed. The fact that he's applied for management jobs since leaving us eight years ago, but no one will give him a chance says the word is out on him. He's too volatile, unpredictable, and basically destructive to manage for long. Short term he'll give you a lift and it'll be entertaining, but longer term he'll do more damage than good. Even in his playing career he moved around regularly until he came to England.

Absolute box office. If he could have dialled it down maybe 10-15% he could have been a great gaffer.

But then, he wouldn’t have been Paolo would he.

I will never forget the knee slide. None of us will. He’s got the brilliant eternal piece of our history, in 13 games, which tells you just how much of a character he is.

Agreed mate, I've had a few disagreements back in the day about why he hasn't worked in management since us and as far as I'm concerned it's because of his personality not his politics. Success is the bottom line in football.

absolutely loved Di Canio was 100% behind him until it started to fall apart brill guy , just needed a man management course under his belt to be perfect as his assessment of players was spot on , and in hindsight some of the twats needed being telt in plain speak that he was on their case

Met him a couple of years ago at a function for West Ham fans. Came across as a thoroughly nice bloke. Absolutely in love with football though and very dedicated to it.

I think his biggest failing as a manager was that he couldn't cope with players not being as disciplined or as dedicated as him. Apparently, at West Ham, he would drag players like Joe Cole back on to the training pitch, telling them that the way to be successful was to train longer and harder. Being a football-monk manager worked at Swindon where players were in awe of him but in the Premier League, our wasters thought they knew better. He had more passion for the game and for the club than the lot of them put together.

Sorry but I can’t help but laugh at most of the comments above, so we have loads of s hit trouble making players and the manager wants to get rid of them but the posters on here want to get rid of the manager instead. We are now in the the third division after keeping them I wonder whose fault that is?<doh>

I think if you give him a good budget and a blank canvas to sign who he wants, you've got a competitive team. He is, clearly, not everyone's cup of tea, so he needs people who are going to buy in to his way of doing things. If every player was like him, you'd be happy.

I agree but luckily I believe we have a manager who is better than Paulo and will do brilliant with us. Just let’s hope we don’t get a couple of bad apples or they will want him gone sharpish.

Undoubtedly we're in a better place with LJ and all round now. I think the new set up will eliminate the bad apples. We won't be signing them in the first place.

I’ve met many a player/ex player over the years but I’m jealous of that one, I’d be fascinated by even 5 minutes craic with him.

I’ve always been intrigued and drawn by personality and individuality, the man has all of it.
