Hmm, so Liverpool want to break ranks - apparently Bolton don't deserve an equal share of overseas TV revenue.

I know Utd would benefit hugely from making our own TV deal but it would damage the competitiveness of the league so I disagree.

What about the competitiveness of Europe? Barcelona and real Madrid rake in tons from their tv deals which ruins europe's competitiveness. That's the route ayre's taking. If Barcelona can leverage their past successes into getting them good tv rights why can't the rest of us? I would prefer it though if FIFA just imposed a ban on individual team tv rights which would mean this debate wasn't necessary and all Europe would be on equal footing. The last thing I want is for the prem to turn into la liga but I can see where he's coming from.

The premier league, and by that all the clubs, makes a shed load of money from the overseas rights though. If we, United and Liverpool being the obvious beneficiaries, go solo on that the deal abroad is less tempting and so far less money comes in to all the clubs. I think we should stick as we are, unless of course what is happening with pub landlady compromises all this anyway. If that does happen the whole contract will need to be looked at.

On the face of it it looks tempting to be able to compete with the likes of Real and Barca in europe but would impact on the domestic game and that remains the bread and butter.

What are they supposed to do? Let Spains answer to Manchester City, Malaga take over as the number one club in Spain? Sorry it doesn't work like that. Liverpool need a way to increase income, whilst staying within the FFP rules to remain competitive against Man City and Chelsea and I cannot see a reason why Liverpool should not be allowed to utilise something they have spent years building and that is their fan-base.

Fair enough Red, not sure if you were on 606 but when it was mooted by United they were slated to the hills, usually by Liverpool fans. The same when we were taken over by the Glazers and then it all went quiet when G&H took over who were the greatest idea since sliced bread, until it all went to **** of course. Yeah, it was a dig but then it was posted on our joint threads and that's what tends to happen.

Yes I was on 606, but don't remember this cropping up. I've just seen the quote from Ian Ayre and it seems it doesn't affect the UK. It's just in foreign climes. If this is the case, and it doesn't have a detrimental effect on less financially adept clubs, then I don't have an issue. If it did, I would be completely against it.

i dont think this is a debate that is even viable- the current shared structure will remain but by saying this, it will give liverpool and the other big clubs more bargaining power when negotiations start on the next tv deal

All businesses should be allowed to use resources available to them. Liverpool have a world-wide fan-base, something they have earned, they should be allowed to use it. Other clubs such as Chelsea and Arsenal and Spurs should go about earning it, instead of whining about it. Its not Liverpools fault that on a global scale, they are small clubs.
If its a way for Liverpool to compete with Man City and their ''new money'' so be it. Good businesses use all their ammunition, because someone else will.

Whats wrong with that? Its dog eat dog, its survival of the fittest, if you don't cut your competitors throat, they will cut yours. Its nobodies fault except Arsenals that Wenger forgot this. Nobody will sit around if Arsenal stand still...Arsenal are being left behind because they stood still.

It would be a sad day for football if this happened. It would kill the little competition left in the premier league by the clubs that are outside of the top 6, saying that clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd need to find ways to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Man City outside of having a fantastic manager with an eye for a bargain (Wenger and Ferguson).

In an interesting point I read yesterday that only TEN out of the Twenty two clubs that voted for the premier league are actually still in it. So maybe people should be careful what they wish for!

Would you enjoy beating every team 6-0 apart from man utd? A major part of football is competition and its seems selfish to get rid of it just so that its easier for you to win.

If this were to come into being is it really worse than what the New Money Clubs have done? I mean, at least Liverpool, United and every other club who benefitted from this would be making money "off their own backs."

But then there is the other side of the coin. Would I want to see the Premier League become as predictable as its Spanish counterpart? Would I enjoy seeing numerous clubs potentially go to the wall? To both these questions, I answer firmly in the negative. Would any trophy wins feel somewhat more hollow, with this huge advantage derived from this windfall? Maybe. In truth, like all fans of any club, I want us to win trophies and will always be delighted when we do this.

So there is no simple answer imo. I would lean more towards not selling off TV rights individually, as I feel the knock on effects would be just too harmful, but it certainly isn't clear cut. Under the current New Money era, things aren't exactly fair from a financial perspective either. It shouldn't be surprising that Liverpool should want to sell rights overseas individually. They want to compete and it is hard to do that against Chelsea and City (from a financial perspective at least) with the situation as it is currently.

It's not just about keeping up with those two though is it? It's about casting adrift the rest of the PL. This impacts down the line on the lower leagues too.

But surely rahter than casting ourselfs off with these clubs, to the detriment of the league, we should put our faith in the FFP rules to stop the rediculous spending at City ?

Therefore I think we can safely say it's never gonna happen. Which is good imo. Yes the potential extra £100 million we could gain from selling our rights separately (we currently get £60 million and Barca get £156 million) would probably mean we won the next ten PL titles without even breaking sweat and probably got a few CLs along the way. But I honestly can't say I'd be happy if we were sitting around at this stage of the season debating how many points we'd win the league by, rather than being level at the top of the table and knowing that every game could be crucial. I'd hate the PL to turn into the NFL where the results are so obvious that the bookmakers have to give teams handicaps just to make the betting interesting...

Besides which, I find it hard to believe the PL would seriously consider this when most of the La Liga clubs want to move towards our revenue sharing model, and are making progress achieving just that:
