Hmm, so Liverpool want to break ranks - apparently Bolton don't deserve an equal share of overseas TV revenue.

I know Utd would benefit hugely from making our own TV deal but it would damage the competitiveness of the league so I disagree.

    Thoughts?

Sad as this is, my first thought is how the hypocritical Liverpool fans will now be tossing off about what a great idea this is having previously castigated United for even considering it, just like they did when they got cash rich American owners after we had and pretty much everything after we do.

On the subject though, I think sharing out the TV deal as it is now is the best way to go. If we all take our own personal deal it will mean we absolutely annihilate the rest but the league will become a closed shop, just like Spain, and the clubs with less clout will struggle. Not exactly an exciting competition. The current TV deal has already wrecked the lower leagues.

Stupid and massively greedy idea. If United suggested it again I would think the same.

The gap would get even bigger and effectively kill off some Premier League teams. I really hope no club starts trying to pursue this idea further.

From a selfish point of view I would prefer to be able to watch my team every week. I don't really know how this would impact on the rest of the league though.

If we do this then others will probably follow and may leave a group of teams trying to get a new joint deal with Sky.

Anyone know the impact of this.

La Liga without the Sun, think the SPL with Footballers.

What is the point in even trying to debate the pros and cons of the idea when the intial response starts with "Sad as this is, my first thought is how the hypocritical Liverpool fans will now be tossing off about what a great idea this is having previously castigated United for even considering it, just like they did when they got cash rich American owners after we had and pretty much everything after we do."

    Don't bother then Dave.

Go on, piss off there's a good old bore. You can be tiresome on another thread.

Well done on completely ignoring my second paragraph by the way.

Clearly there is a serious debate to be had here, but if (some) United fans just want to use it as a stick to beat Liverpool with then the "debate" will just descend into the usual childish name-calling.

I heard something about this on BBC breakfast news as I was leaving the house. I'm not sure what it's all about. However, if it means that smaller clubs will lose out, then I don't agree with it. It certainly doesn't sound like 'The Liverpool Way'.

Can anyone shed a bit more light on this?

Not very constructive, Rufflad. There was a lot of assumption in the 'tossing off' piece. I don't understand enough about this to make a considered judgement, which is why I asked for clarification earlier. Let's not turn this into yet another 'us and them' tirade. There's enough of that as it is.

Let's take your second paragraph shall we:

"On the subject though, I think sharing out the TV deal as it is now is the best way to go. If we all take our own personal deal it will mean we absolutely annihilate the rest but the league will become a closed shop, just like Spain, and the clubs with less clout will struggle. Not exactly an exciting competition. The current TV deal has already wrecked the lower leagues. "

Now there is a clear well argued and validated argument ! Well it's probably the best that you can do.

Do me a very big favour Dave and **** off. I love your keyboard bravery, it really is lovely. Sit behind your screen being all nice and condescending whilst not being able to tell the difference between your and you're.

Fair enough Red, not sure if you were on 606 but when it was mooted by United they were slated to the hills, usually by Liverpool fans. The same when we were taken over by the Glazers and then it all went quiet when G&H took over who were the greatest idea since sliced bread, until it all went to **** of course. Yeah, it was a dig but then it was posted on our joint threads and that's what tends to happen.

Firstly the proposal is that Liverpool want to locate their own Foreign TV deals. The UK and Ireland market which they have signed along with the rest of the premier league will remain intact. Why shouldn't they be allowed to negotiate their TV deals in countries where they have massive fanbases. If it were Man United, I would say the same thing.
Its not Liverpool and Man Uniteds fault that most of the clubs in the PL don't have the marketability they do.
If its a way for Liverpool and possibly Man United to compete with the ''New money clubs'' ie Man City and Chelsea, then so be it. The PL is supposed to be a competition, and being competitive means you use avenue open to you in order to stay competitive.

    From Ayre:

'if you're a Bolton fan in Bolton, then you subscribe to Sky because you want to watch Bolton. Everyone gets that. Likewise, if you're a Liverpool fan from Liverpool, you subscribe. But if you're in Kuala Lumpur there isn't anyone subscribing to Astro, or ESPN to watch Bolton, or if they are it's a very small number. Whereas the large majority are subscribing because they want to watch Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal.'

I understand keeping domestic rights in tact but in terms of overseas, he has a point. Who the hell watches wolves in Asia? it's a debate that needs to be raised as domestic tv rights will now be worth nothing on the back of sky not wining the court case about Greek TV in pubs.

As usual the blinkered few have completely misread or misunderstood what Ayre was saying.

    Exactly.
Leave the UK and Ireland deal that were signed alongside the rest of the PL alone, and set up new deals in other countries. Liverpool fans in Delhi and Hong Kong don't want to watch Arsenal and Everton and Spurs ansd Chelsea, They want to watch Liverpool. I reckon could be the same for Man Uniteds fanbase in those countries. Man United have mobile phone deals in these countries as it is, so why not broaden it, that they get exclusive rights to games?

Liverpool should also go down the mobile phone route too. If its a way to increase revenue, stay within the FFP, because the FFP cannot do anything about clubs increasing their own revenue. It will help to be competitive against the ''new money clubs''
Normally I wouldn't say this, but Liverpool and Man United fans should be on the same side on this one, they are the ones with the global fanbases and the commercial potential. I would back them if they decided to set up an International breakaway TV deal. In my opinion Liverpool should do it.
