Can’t say I’ve seen too many patting them on the back, but I don’t think at this current time it’s particularly high as a priority for most. In 6 months when we are hopefully back to some kind of normality and the inevitable questions on how the pandemic will be paid for start to raise its head, then the mood will likely to be different.

They wont be held accountable because they will cite extenuating circumstances.
It's basically a time for almost acceptable embezzlement .
