I also could never see Pearson as an Ashton choice so if the rumours are true then I would praise Lansdown for getting us a manager that has the necessary experience. If indeed Ashton is on his way then I hope that would free up Pearson to supposedly report direct to Lansdown (whichever) and in time tell him the truth as to why we are constant under achievers and never seem to get things right.

Pearson does come with a bit of a reputation for some not so nice things but at least he won't stand for any guff, and I would like him to educate our owner in the finer points of building a competitive team that will show up mentally and physically for every game. The current bunch had better start performing for their supper because I don't think it will take Pearson long to sort out the wheat from the chaff.

I just hope the rumours are true and I can understand the other side of our quest by seeing that Howe wants to bide his time for a Premier team - and why not?

Lets hope that Pearson will be able to replicate success with a so say poor squad (some would say) as LJ did left behind by SC and keep us clear from the drop :emoticon-0127-lipss:emoticon-0103-cool:
IMO....If true regarding Pearson, I believe this will go one of two ways...........either one of the best decisions by BCFC in decades or a utter and total disaster....I really can't call it, which way it will go.......one can only pray!!

If true it’s just what we need, agree it could go wrong , but a very bold move by SL, at least he’s tried

He is a manager with 'real' achievements on his CV, with 2 promotions to the prem and at the time of his sacking at Watford he had the best points per game ratio in Watfords history.

Nothing is of course guaranteed but I think he is just exactly what is needed in this time in our history. Hopefully sort some of the lazy gutless pussies in squad out, get some passion back in our game and just get us to safety and if he ruffles Ashton's feathers into the bargain and shows SL what might be possible with a coach with proper pedigree and if he achieves that and he can be persuaded to stay, then he can start the process of shipping out much of the deadwood in our squad, then it will all be worth it.

I bet one or two in the squad are already ****ting themselves.

I think he is absolutely the best person for the predicament that we presently find ourselves in.

"Utter total disaster?" that happened in August with another cheap option.

And it is a poor squad, especially in midfield, we haven't been scoring goals for a year now 50 goals from the last 52 games, tells you everything that you need to know about our problems, if the strikers were actually missing chances, it would be different but they are not, we are simply not creating any for them, I cannot recall the last gilt edged chance that we missed, can you?.

Let’s hope this is true - but let’s also hope that he doesn’t let his son anywhere near our club.

It will probably be a deal like McCarthy at Cardiff. Where come season end it will be thanks for securing our status / getting us to play offs (Cardiff) here’s your three year deal. None of this do you want to stay.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it was Pearson’s idea, I can’t see him staying if we are relegated

On the whole NP has done a good job at all the clubs he’s been at.
Sorted out Hull City when he was with us, even though he was hampered by the clown shoes in charge, who ultimately caused him to return to Leicester.
Made us difficult to play against (14 consecutive away games unbeaten at one point) and with Shakespeare & Walsh brought in a decent crop of players that served us well.
If you want someone to wave at the fans when they sing his name, or offer platitudes to the local press etc, he’s the wrong man.
If you want someone to sort the wheat from the chaff, get your team playing football and winning games, over time he will turn it round.
By all accounts what the public sees is not what the players get.
Would have him back in a heart beat, despite the one or two ‘issues’ he had.

Morning Arnold, thanks for your insight. I really hope we employ Pearson, a 'type' I wished we'd employed 5 years ago. It seems our owner needed to be kicked in the b=lls to know it hurts.
Arnold, do you have a strange hobby? <ok>

The other side of the picture ~
Pearson lasted just 14 games in charge at Pride Park, winning only once in the Championship. His 21% win record in all competitions ranks among Derby’s worst in their history,
However, it was just a case of wrong club, wrong time when looking back on his spell at Derby. It was a disaster.I want him here ASAP but let's keep our feet on the ground, the bloke doesn't walk on water.

Ex-Derby manager Nigel Pearson reportedly set to join Bristol City

According to the Guardian, former Derby County manager Nigel Pearson is set to take over at Bristol City following the sacking of Dean Holden.

Pearson is currently out of work after his sacking from Watford last season.

The 57-year-old held a 1.25 points-per-game record with Watford but he was bizarrely dismissed two games from the end with the Hornets three points above the drop zone.

Watford ultimately got relegated with Aston Villa staying up.
Now, the Guardian claim Pearson is set to join Bristol City until the end of the season with the view to a longer deal having held productive talks on Sunday.

The Robins are in freefall in the Championship, losing seven straight games.

Dean Holden, who took charge following Lee Johnson’s dismissal, was appointed on a 12-month contract but he has failed to push City on from last season.

Pearson has plenty of experience at Championship level.

He had a decent spell at Hull City before winning the Championship title with Leicester City in 2013-14 with a whopping 102 points as the Foxes ran away with it.

But his return to the east Midlands with Derby County was short-lived.

The Rams appointed Pearson in 2015-16 with the goal of promotion to the Premier League after previous failed attempts under both Steve McClaren and Paul Clement.

But Pearson lasted just 14 games in charge at Pride Park, winning only once in the Championship. His 21% win record in all competitions ranks among Derby’s worst in their history.

Pearson has shown his capabilities as a manager. However, it was just a case of wrong club, wrong time when looking back on his spell at Derby. It was a disaster.

Bristol City will be hoping his arrival will be one of those cases where it works out.

If true, needs to hit the ground running. This squad didn't become $hit over night, first dozen games, although dull looked at least ok for a top half finish, where as now we struggle to buy a win.
The disaster could strike if we continue to plummet and he goes off on one with the board......whichever way it goes, he's sure to provoke a stir!!
The situation reminds me a bit of when LJ was appointed, whom managed to save us from falling out of this league with players left behind from SC....
    Interesting times ahead.

1for, as you know I supported LJ for most of his tenure, but it was actually Pemberton who stopped the plummet when Cotts was sacked - instantly.
LJ just finished the job that Pemberton started <cheers>

I would argue fervently that LJ was left a better squad than Holden was or Pearson looks to be. Apart from Bentley we do not have a single player worth more than when we signed him and certainly the only player capable of stepping up to the prem.

Below is a list of 11 players that LJ had when he walked in through the door.

Williams still a 1st teamer at Blackburn.
Flint back in favour at Cardiff under Mcarthy.
    Ayling playing in the prem.
    Smith a mainstay for Swansea.
    Reid playing in the prem.
Freeman on loan to Forest from prem club.
Baker on loan from Villa (LJ eventually paid 4.5mil for him)
    Wibraham.
Pack back in favour at Cardiff.
    Kodjia (scored 20 goals).
    Bryan at a prem club.

There is no way that there is 11 players of similar calibre in our present squad.
