Their back five cost about £260m and they had Stones and Mendy in reserve, which is another £100m. That's just defenders.

Their inability to get the defence sorted has been shocking and the amount spent are insane. The " each player cost 30m+" isn't actually true (Gundogen, Foden and Zinchenko combined cost less than that) but the point behind the statement is a fair one. I guess he's never had to spot a bargain.

And that's before you look at those who have moved on, like Otamendi and Mangala, who cost about £40m each.
I think I'm still correct in saying that Shows Ameobi had scored more European goals than Sunderland. We qualified for around 15 successive years before Ashley got his hands on us. Just a coincidence obviously.
