Batty got another mom for Fleetwood yesterday. Brilliant.

Our strikers don't score, but they also don't really miss that many chances either.....we just don't really seem to create anything other than getting it out wide and humping it into the box.

Defensively we are so stand offish, never put pressure on teams in their half, when we lose it we drop off and reset rather than counter pressing.

We are dull.

Think a lot more sides are denying us space in behind than earlier in the season. We need to find another way to get through.

Hope this helps ...

------- Ingram -------
Coyle Burke Greaves Elder
--- Honeyman Doc ----
Emmanuel Crowley KLP
---- Magennis ------

It's how he's been setting them up for months now, ever since he dropped his favoured 4 3 3.
Tonight he dropped Honeyman back into the 2 in place of Smallwood.
Before that he played Crowley where Emmanuel played last night (WTF), in order to accommodate Crowely and Honeyman in the same team. He was able to (sort of) accommodate both last night by dropping Honeyman to fill in (in theory) for Smallwood. But of course, Honeyman runs everywhere irrespective (just not as advanced last night as normal), and Crowley drops deep now and then as he wants to constantly be on the ball. And they both run into the same spaces too much as they both naturally play similar roles (but Honeyman being more of a duracell bunny).
And Doc makes bursting runs forward, and the wide men drop back when we lose the ball.

-> by now in the season all the little glitches should be worked out and the team used to each other and be able to adapt to other teams and their own formations. We look all over the shop especially when we lose the ball. hopefully we will turn it round but it feels like it’s slipping away from us".

I agree.
We also seem to have lost any meaningful press, speed and urgency.

I think not having a designated sitter in the midfield and all 3 sharing the more defensive role at times made it look a bit more confused last night.

Formation seems more settled up front when Whyte is available. Crowley seems to want to come inside a lot.

It did, and he does.
Although last night Crowley wasn't played out wide (like he was previously)!
When Whyte and Alfie Jones are back fit, it is going to be interesting to see what McCann does then.
Square pegs, round holes or the necessary tough decisions

I tend to agree.
But which 3 do you mean?
He plays with 2 defensive midfielders, and then 3 attacking midfielders (last night it was Emmanuel, Crowley and KLP). That makes 5.
Honeyman and Doc were in theory the defensive / holding midfielders, but as we know, they both tend to buzz all over.

Cotterill has been in hospital for a couple of weeks, ex-Tiger Aaron Wilbraham has been in temporary charge on match days. Never saw that coming!

Regarding last night and zero shots on target - it’s a bit misleading, we had plenty of shots that were heading towards goal but were blocked by Lincoln’s excellent defence. Most weeks we won’t play teams quite that committed to packing their defence and blocking shots with their arse.
I think two of the blocks were made by Magennis who got in the way.

The probing for space is overplayed. That goes for the intricate wing play too which delays getting the ball into where it needs to be, the penalty area. The finishing last night was shocking. I bet watching a training session is fun. Still, could be worse. Second in the league and stuttering but things can improve up front for sure.

That was what was so refreshing, and promising, from seeing Whyte play those couple of games.

HOW!!!! reading the thread it seems that KLP as an example was told to shoot from anywhere... great coaching that...

The key thing for me, which gives me a little hope, is that when Emmanuel and Wilks were in tandem again, we looked much more threatening. I thought Wilks looked back on it last night too. Coyle generally plays ok, and may be a better technical full back than Emmanuel (although when he gets out of position he seems awfully exposed, whereas Emmanuel often manages to recover) but our strongest right-hand side is Emmanuel and Wilks (until Whyte is fit again). In my humble opinion, it's criminal not starting Emmanuel when fit, just as it's wrong to start Long ahead of Ingram.

BTW, this 'yeah but we hit the crossbar' ****. No we didn't. They did!! It would have been a very nice gift.

I honestly can’t understand the confusion on the teams formation last night!
To me it was fairly obvious, forgive me if I’m teaching hardened football fans to suck eggs but, surely we played the old one in goal and ten outfield!!!
Think the tactics could be this basic too.

Spot on

This, absolutely, just like early in the season when we were winning games and scoring goals. How many times did Emmanuel get in the MOM top 3 for those first dozen or games? Lots I'd bet.

Goalkeeper (in woolen jersey)
right back left back

right half centre half left half

right wing inside right centre forward inside left left wing

What's that set up? 235?
Shirt numbers nowadays 40+ What's that all about?

The attraction of the game is being lost by all the bs talked about by so called experts analysing 433, 442 etc when the only object of the sport is to score more goals than the other side.
I'm aware there is more to it than that but not much. There's more back and sideways passing goes on now than in the game of rugby.

It really is that simple.

The adage is, if it ain't broke dont fix it..... but McCant seems to think he's Ranieri.....

Our best chances last night came when we lost the ball high up, counter pressed and won it back, it frustrates the fkin hell out of me that we aren't more aggressive, esp at home, when it comes to pressing. We've got the energy with our midfield and enough pace at the back to handle long balls, I want us to press high, put other teams under pressure, if they're good enough to pass it round us then fair play to them, but in L1 from what i've seen, not many are.

£10 a go it's a decent wedge. Anyone know how it's divvied up?

Most of the Hull ones will be free streams for members, some fans will pay to watch though. More will watch on illegal streams on streaming sites, facebook groups.
But it is fair indication that Hull City's membership numbers are dropping and will surely drop more if fans aren't admitted until next season.
