It's high time that the city started taking steps like this Fez. There are times when emergency vehicles cannot reach accident spots because the narrow streets are clogged up with vomiting tourists, and people pissing all over the place - a lot of these being from the UK, who like to come over and spend their stag nights in A'Dam. The Netherlands tourist board wants to stop selling the city as a tourist venue and try to relocate tourists with the attractions of other towns such as Haarlem, Utrecht, Delft, Tilburg etc. in order to spread tourism more evenly around the country. Unfortunately the type of tourism which flocks to Amsterdam is not the best kind, and the city deserves better because, at one time, it was a beautiful and relaxed city.

I have no opinion other than it's easy to see how a vacuum is formed. I've never been to Amsterdam, so I really wouldn't know. Valkenburg (famous for its caves), Eindhoven and Rotterdam (stop over to see Queen in Brussels) are the sum total of my visits. No smoking involved.

I have been on both sides of the issue..... im my younger days i had some drug fuelled trips to amsterdam..... and in later years have visited for great weekends away ... in fact my wife proposed to me there after an evening romantic cruise!

    A lovely city...

Our dutch friends completely distance themselves from the drugs and sex tourism which has abounded there.......a blot on the city in their eyes

A difficult balance exacerbated by the influx of people from other places where it is all forbidden.....

The guy in Somerset who ran out the backdoor when a police lockdown team knocked on the front door to investigate a possible breach?

They caught him in the street when they spotted him walking without shoes.

What, when and by whom was the first recorded use of the word 'sh*t' as an insult?

    orrrr

Famously, president Richard Nixon said to aide H. R. Haldeman while being tape recorded in the Oval Office, "I don't give a **** about the lira." He meant he was too busy managing the Watergate affair to consider a crisis in the Italian monetary system ?????

TV was centuries into the future when this was said - although both have a Scottish connection.

No - you may have misread the question. It's about the use of the word as an insult - used to describe someone else. Although an American president's name is in the answer.
